Added: Jun 15, 2011
Author: TheDrexelInterview
Duration: 15:0
Description:
Composer Jennifer Higdon's piece "blue cathedral" is one of today's most frequently performed contemporary classical works. Winner of the Pulitzer Prize in music (2010) and a multiple Grammy Award-winner, Higdon's astonishingly packed schedule of commissions will keep her busy for the next six years. Higdon explains that listeners tend to find her work accessible because of her use of melody and reveals that her background was in bluegrass and rock, not classical music. She speaks of why she likes the structure that commissioned work provides and how she welcomes the different interpretations conductors and artists give her work This segment features portions of Higdon's "Dash for Clarinet, Violin, and Piano." The piece is now the theme music of The Drexel InterView.

Aug 11, 2011 - Her compositions should be required, by law, to be played in every public school, park, bus stop, and any other place of gathering for the unwashed philistines to confront their ignorance and be bathed in the salubrious light of Maestro Higdon! Fie on him who chooses to disagree with me! A pox on his house! Take heart, take care, a thousand points of light, and good day.(C) 2011 brighton dechienne All Rights Reserved
