May 12, 2012 - agreed. what's so special about the MIT? i don't get it
DEBROXDEBROX Says:
May 12, 2012 - The prestige behind MIT is not from how they teach their undergraduates extremely easy material. It's all about the research conducted by the professors and the fact that these undergraduates are socializing with these researchers, thereby bettering their chances to do said research for their MS or Ph.D.But yes, what you guys have pointed out is a vacuous truth. They learn the same things at MIT. But what else, e.g., would you expect to learn in a calculus class other than calculus?
troglodyto Says:
May 14, 2012 - People are generalizing about this school based on the first lecture of a first-year chemistry course.... but what you said isn't true. What you learn in community college is probably the first year and a half of MIT undergrad program. After the intro classes it really ramps up quite fast. They push students really hard. And the graduates from MIT, I've never seen people like them elsewhere. They know so much shit, and how to apply it, from the dozens of projects they do with bleeding edge tech.
troglodyto Says:
May 14, 2012 - Plus the students there foster a community of serious intellectual competition, and they're VALUED for pushing their intelligence, unlike most other universities where students try to outdo each other in trying to hide their smarts. MIT EECS students are like wizards IRL.MIT also has some really cool things other universities NEED. Like you get an active faculty member as a mentor through your undergrad, and have regular meetings with him/her, and they take an interest and give you keyadvice.

May 16, 2012 - Damn! What's the prupose of this video? To demonstrate what boring lectures are like? We rememeber. It's 21st century. Why not make a good HD video with reasonable grpahics and without speech mistakes. Ditto large hall views etc. The learner is NOT benefiting from such camera views. I cannot see the black board. (Black board? Back to the 50's??) Just take this lecture footage as a start and make a great educational lecture video out of it with graphics and all.
SoundSmartTraining Says:
May 16, 2012 - Viewing the lecturer is not benefiting the learner at all. It's not an acting class, damn it! 3D modeling software is cheap and easy to master. Any money to invest, anyone?Let's start a WikiLernia.
Alchaeon1 Says:
May 17, 2012 - ....at the risk of sounding arrogant and elitist, the voice of the lecturer seems infinitely remote from Qauntum Physics - more suited to discussing something like hair perming or gardening tips
CmdrTobs Says:
May 17, 2012 - lol, you don't think they actually teach 'secret' information at expensive institutions!!! This lecture is repeated the world over in physics courses.
krone01 Says:
May 18, 2012 - its not so much the teaching, although you cant base that judgement on one lecturer. collectively they do have very good lecturers and academics who are leading a lot of research. but what makes them is also the quality of the students. Generally the lecturers across different universities will teach the same material, but the students that go through MIT are usually top of their game.

May 20, 2012 - Her voice is melodic and monotonous in the right ammounts to either put you to sleep or distract you.I'd prefer GladOS.
artakisthebest Says:
May 21, 2012 - I would think they only put the basics on here...
RealGoonieKid Says:
May 21, 2012 - im not knocking what u said bro, but this is only lecture 8. at degree level almost all the first semester of any degree is very basic. this is to make sure that everyone is on the same start. there were people on my Networking degree who had previously studied physics and didnt know jack about computers but they wanted to change the direction of their education. if this simple stuff hadnt been taught those people would have failed Uni, simple as.. and obviously the College/Uni doesnt want that.
twiistaaa Says:
May 22, 2012 - what is this? first year undergrad? what are they going to teach differently?it doesn't matter if you went to any old public school or the most prestigious private school, the lessons on multiplication or division will be the same.
bhaalthus Says:
May 22, 2012 - That's because science is the same in a small college or a fancy university. Remember, Einstein was a patent clerk, did not attend the best schools and received middling grades (except in physics and math, of course).
bunnyzszs Says:
May 22, 2012 - The lessons are always the same. Its the research they conduct there that makes the difference. Their r&d departments conduct experiments furthering the principles of physics. They then share the knowledge with the world. The schools are the same. Anyway it doesnt matter which school you go to, its the mind of the student that matters.
TheCozybear65 Says:
May 22, 2012 - that's funny

May 23, 2012 - chick looks hotter when blurred
MeistroJB Says:
May 23, 2012 - dude, 1. community colleges are usually just fine. so is MIT. one of them is usually quite more expensive. America is not falling apart because of the quality of education available. Its some other prob.
MeistroJB Says:
May 23, 2012 - and...?
david667766 Says:
May 23, 2012 - I clicked on this 'cos it looked like a fit bird talking about engines and stuff...
wackojackgoff Says:
May 24, 2012 - amen brother
jhongz100 Says:
May 25, 2012 - You are forgetting that this is just a general chemistry class (pre-req) of course the material is universally standard. Upper level sciences are taught much different across the board. Don't get confused.
bytedildo Says:
May 26, 2012 - id tap that
mickey frisk Says:
May 27, 2012 - is dis MIT,chennai??????????????/
