Dec 8, 2011 - SWEET! Thank you so much for such a simple explanation and great demonstration on this. Joining in the round has been a nightmare for me!

Dec 30, 2011 - So helpful! I ended up with a horrible gap the first time I attempted to join a round. This video was a life saver :)

Jan 5, 2012 - Thanks! That helps a lot. Every time I try to join I wind up with a funky gap. I'm hoping this eliminates that.

Jan 5, 2012 - this is exactly what i was looking for. i'm embarking on a hat pattern for a friend, and didn't want that goofy gap at the join. thank you so much!!

Jan 5, 2012 - Brilliant! Are you the inventor of this technique, "unkoine?"? Thanks to you, for the first time ever I have myself a beautiful, snug, virtually undetectable join edge. THANK YOU!!!

unkoine Says:

Jan 6, 2012 - - Glad you like it! I learned this technique back when I was first learning to knit in 2003. I found it in a "mailing list" on the internet. There were no photos, just a description of how it was done. It worked perfectly for me, and I've never used another technique since. Nice, when it's right the first time. :)

Jan 11, 2012 - This is a really great video. Can I ask what the difference between knitting on circular and double pointed needles is? Can I used circular needles even though it says to use double point? - circular looks much easier! Thanks!

unkoine Says:

Jan 11, 2012 - - You can use circular needles on a project as long as it stays the same width from top to bottom. But, if you need to make decreases to bring it to a close at the top (like a hat), you will need to switch to double points. OR, you can use the "magic loop" method to finish up the top. OR, you can use two circular needles to finish up the top. You'll find other videos for those techniques. Good luck!

unkoine Says:

Jan 11, 2012 - - another option would be to knit the entire project on double pointed needles. Then, you would never need to change needles.

Feb 9, 2012 - Thank you, that is really very clear. I haven't knitted with double pointed needles since my schooldays, but i shall try it again now. Your tip on how to start a new needle is great!

Feb 19, 2012 - Thank you so much! I have looked through all of my books to find out how to do this and none of them had instructions. This is so simple that I can do it! =D I haven't tried double-point needles and I am just starting circular needles. Thanks again!!

milliejudd Says:

Feb 25, 2012 - thanks so much. this was exactly what I needed!

Mar 3, 2012 - Wow, this is such a great technique and really well explained. I used the conventional joining method but always had a gap so unpicked it 3 times. Then i found this technique and am now much happier! thank you.

Apr 4, 2012 - all i can say is thank you soooo much,it was easier than the way the complete idiots guide was telling me to do it,thanks again!!!!!!

xraymdabm Says:

Apr 12, 2012 - Great video! I understand about the stitch marker on the circular needles following the join, but how would you place the stitch marker if you are using DPNs and picking up an unused needle to knit onto?

unkoine Says:

Apr 12, 2012 - I don't use a stitch marker for dpns, unless the project is very long or very narrow. I use the beginning yarn tail as my guide for the end of every round. If I'm making a narrow or very long project, I put the stitch marker just after the first stitch.
