You cannot blame Detroit's situation solely on the Auto Industry. The failure is the city government for failing to fill the 40 year decline in Auto jobs by attracting new jobs outside of the Auto Industry. Throw on top of that the Welfare State that kept a degraded population there and you have a HUGE model of failure.
