I live with these conditions for 5 months each year, drive a rear wheel drive volvo with a LOT of horsepower - never have these problems. wanna know why? because I've invested in a set of GOOD wintertires! I also drive in a speed appropriate for the conditions at hand, and use my head and my eyes. my awd truck is usually much more of a problem during the winter.

May 20, 2012 - Uhm.... 4wd helps nothing if you have to brake! It can be an andvantage to go down slippery hills but only if you know how to use it. And judging by the videos here on youtube, at least 50% of all 4wd drivers don't know how to drive on ice and snow. With a set of Michelin Alpine winter tires, me and my old FWD Audi will make it further than any 4wd with summer tires!
