Added: May 5, 2009

Description:
Brought to you by: http://www.agonybooth.com/I made this video because I couldn't find one with BRIEF excerpts from all the songs that were supposedly ripped off by Coldplay. This video contains interesting segments from these songs:"Viva La Vida" by Coldplay"Foreigner Suite" by Cat Stevens"If I Could Fly" by Joe Satriani"The Songs I Didn't Write" by Creaky BoardsI make no claims as to whether or not Coldplay plagiarized from these songs. Listen and make up your own mind.

Oct 10, 2011 - its all been done before , that's why disagree with Joe for suing coldplay , cause it all sounds like cat Stevens to me , cat should sue all of them LOL

LightWithoutSun Says:

Oct 12, 2011 - There are plenty of songs that sound so much alike but they aren't plagiarized. Take 'Not Over You' by Gavin DeGraw and 'Love Song' by Sara Bareilles. They are really close but not the same. How long has music been around? We can't make completely different music continually. It will end up close to the same eventually with every song.

vgtheorist Says:

Oct 15, 2011 - It's just a similar chord progression. Rock/pop music is simple and there are only so many progressions that can happen. I don't like Coldplay, but....this is just coincidental chord progression.

rockwithutube Says:

Oct 19, 2011 - Joe Satriani, Creaky Boards and Coldplay's songs sound way too similar for that to be a coincidence, and I thing that actually it is Coldplay who stole the 2 previous artists, and I would not be surprised if they have stolen more songs because its obvious that they listen to great artists and then probably they just copy the good rhythms and change them a little bit hoping that noone will ever notice :S

ThadeuACPaula Says:

Oct 19, 2011 - Some people used red... other white... and they composed great paintings. Since then everyone that uses the same colors is guilty. It's a joke, a lot of children playing!Whoa... It's easier to compose a new work than stay listening all these things to compile. I think that these claiming people are sad cause they see what they could've done but they didn't. Ideas are everywhere just waiting to be captured.

4myWong Says:

Oct 21, 2011 - If all of the songs sound pretty similar, why didn't Cat Stevens sue Joe Satriani, or why didn't Joe Satriani sue Creaky Boards? Why Coldplay?

kdigiorgio Says:

Oct 23, 2011 - Unfortunately you need to add one more song to your list as Creaky Boards directly stole the song from Michael Greggory of the Greggory Brothers. (Check his video about it on youtube. He's not complaining so much as warning everyone to copyright their music.) And when you do it, please play the songs in the order they were originally recorded (meaning Cold Play's version last).

dramaticpickles Says:

Oct 24, 2011 - the only thing thats similar between if i could fly and viva la vida is the chords. you can't copyright chords :-\

Bigthingreg Says:

Oct 26, 2011 - Wow guys. They have a similar chord progression. Come back and complain when you understand in-depth the concept of chord progressions, and can acknowledge the fact all pop is ripped off of classical stuff.

buukyak Says:

Oct 30, 2011 - Chord progressions can't be copyrighted...MELODIES can be, though. I think Cat Stevens (er, Yusef Islam is his name now) should sue the crap out of both Satch and Coldplay.

xxColdplayxxx Says:

Nov 1, 2011 - No way did coldplay plagiarize. I mean sure the songs sound similar but there are tons of other songs that sound alot like coldplays that came out after there songs did.

Xozona Says:

Nov 1, 2011 - It is was weird - I always liked that Coldplay song...but I kept getting the familiar feeling that I had heard it before a bunch of places my whole life. Oh and don't forget about: Alizee - "J'en Ai Marre" The similarities are uncanny there as well...

mapscannotcontainme Says:

Nov 8, 2011 - I hope that sounded cooler in your head than it does to read. It's pretty irrefutable that Coldplay's version sounds like Satriani's. I can understand if you can't pick up the similarities in the other two, but Satriani and Coldplay both have similar chord progressions to Steven's suite.Better luck with your attempts at wit and humor in the future, love, and remember: comedy's not for everyone.

willscomix Says:

Nov 11, 2011 - Cat Stevens/Yusuf Islam is KICKASS!

cpsrisri123 Says:

Nov 16, 2011 - wow foreigner suite and viva la vida have really similar music, but their voices are really different

Mupje86 Says:

Nov 17, 2011 - Liking the Satriani!!!

enedving Says:

Nov 30, 2011 - I hear classical stuff in popular music everywhere these days, and people think I'm crazy. These people also often tend to be the first to shout "THIEF!" and the last to shout the answer to any remedial music theory.

ricky102400 Says:

Jan 6, 2012 - technically Joe Satriani stole from Cat Stevens

WWQueiroz Says:

Jan 21, 2012 - .. KKKKKK Very GooooD

WWQueiroz Says:

Jan 21, 2012 - @basilmcdonnell .. KKKKKK Very GooooD

Thedjbj2 Says:

Feb 17, 2012 - Because Coldplay's song was a #1 hit while the other songs are more obscure. In the end it's all about the money.

jackjude Says:

Feb 19, 2012 - Not really getting Cat Steven's inclusion

THthefirst Says:

Feb 24, 2012 - there are only so many chords, so there is a difference between deliberately setting out to rip somebody else's song off and using the same progression. That said, the Satriani version is pretty close! I wonder if creative people, when faced with the same chords, simply end up with similar melodies that fit?

WERTUB3 Says:

Apr 11, 2012 - exactly what I was thinking!!!
