Aug 1, 2009 - After watching about 10 other videos on book binding I find this one. The technique is simpler than the other ones, and the result is more beautiful, with more room for creativity. Thanks!

Aug 1, 2009 - Well and what is Japanese about this? I used to bind my journals as a kid like this, and i am german. But well, ok at least i know now, that my style was not wrong and that i am close to being a real bookbinder *G*

Pags2k6 Says:

Aug 30, 2009 - Well said... the question now is: Does it make any difference to the fact that it works? All i am pointing out is, that it may now be Japanese standard, but it is, indeed, the easiest and most logical way to bind a book if you have close to no idea...

Nov 8, 2009 - It's widely accepted that this sewing pattern is strongly associated with East Asia due to its widespread use (and most likely, invention as well) in these regions. I'm not sure where you're getting that this is "now Japanese standard," AFAIK casing-in and perfect binding are respectively the hardcover and paperback standards worldwide. And if you get into library/conservation methods, the techniques get much more numerous. I'd say this is more a traditional/fine art technique, even in Japan.
