Oct 24, 2011 - No one will be driving on this section again.

Oct 24, 2011 - and that's why this thing needed to come down. Those three untouched columns got pulled down like a house of cards...

Oct 24, 2011 - sweeet!

Oct 24, 2011 - Those double deck type freeways are a thing of the past, especially in earth quake country, we've only a small section about a 1/2 mile long left in San Francisco and it was upgraded heavily to stay intact.

Oct 24, 2011 - It really is sad to see such hard works of construction getting destroyed so disgracefully, when you think about it.

Oct 24, 2011 - Total awesomeness. Amazing that WSDOT didn't waste much time after Mayor McGinn's bid to stop it failed miserably. I thought it might get tied up in bureaucratic paperwork for months before any work would start. The viaduct was a very useful, if not hideous-looking structure. The part I'm going to miss most is the absolutely stunning view of Puget Sound heading northbound on the top level of the viaduct...always loved that, rain or shine.

Oct 25, 2011 - I certainly won't miss having to speed just to get the car to stop bobbing up and down at every juncture of the bottom deck heading south. 62 mph always made it a smooth drive.

Oct 25, 2011 - The express lanes on I-5 in Seattle are still 'double decker' and are fine!

KittenKoder Says:

Oct 25, 2011 - Happy to see this stupid thing going, finally. Only a few days since it's closure and I haven't had to dust, less soot in my window, so awesome.

Oct 26, 2011 - Somebody from Hollywood should be filming these collapses and use them in a motion picture someday.

WasabiMeal Says:

Oct 26, 2011 - At least with these videos, we know what it would look like of the viaduct falling during an earthquake.

2006WRXDRIVER Says:

Dec 7, 2011 - They should have allowed people to drive as fast as they want for those three hours it was vacant! One at a time of course!

retrocheeta9 Says:

Dec 11, 2011 - Back in 2001 after the Nisqually Earthquake when the viaduct was closed, my bus trip took 2 hours to downtown the first couple of days of viaduct closure. After 6 or 7 days my bus trip only took about 30min while the viaduct was closed. I wish the surface option with transit was choosen for Seattle's future. The People's Waterfront Coalition should have had a lot more recognition. In 2001 I would have rather and absolutely have used any mode of transportation that was not car or bus.

Apr 2, 2012 - those guys have the best job ever, the 10 year old boy in me wants to do that so bad

ufofan1980 Says:

May 24, 2012 - I'm the only one here who is going to miss the old viaduct. My Grandpa helped build it back in fifties. If he were still around I think he would be sad to see the viaduct he helped construct being demolished, but I guess that the city of Seattle really likes to destroy things. First the Kingdome, now the Viaduct. I find it funny that they'll bring down the viaduct, and yet the 520 Bridge remains a floating, time bomb/deathtrap just waiting to strike. WSDOT, at it again!
