Apr 19, 2012 - That's because the internet allows more bands to exist and get discovered, you couldn't search for bands in the 60s. I mean where were you going to hear about them? The ratio of good to shit music is the same but there are more bands to find out now.

Apr 19, 2012 - I respect your opinion but you are wrong. In the 60's the radio was a much more powerful medium than you could ever imagine today. Also, every pub, club and hotel hosted live groups. That is how we got to hear about them.OK, of course there was some shit but overall the quality was so much better. And believe me, there were MILLIONS more bands around in those days. :)

Apr 20, 2012 - While I appreciate your politeness I can't agree with you, yes the radio was a more powerful medium but the internet is infinitely more powerful than the radio ever was and the reason why the quality seemed higher is because only good bands got any radio time. Whereas, in the 21st century any band can put their music on the internet with no difficultly do to the price of music gear going down. You can get a pretty damn fine guitar for 200 quid which just didn't happen in the 60s.

Apr 20, 2012 - thumbs up if you'll still be listening to this in 2020, and after

Apr 24, 2012 - Sorry to intervene, but I'm a guitarist and getting a damn fine guitar for £200 is near impossible, whereas in the 60's it was a lot easier to get hold of. I see what you mean but back in the 60's and 70's and 80's the music was a lot more genuine than it is now. Yes, some modern music is good, but the large majority of tunes now days are auto-tuned heavily and it's more about looks.
knowyouronion12 Says:
Apr 24, 2012 - I'm also a guitarist, among other things and I can tell you what I mean by a decent guitar is something that has a decent tone, nice fretboard and stays in tune not some godly Manson. Besides you've got to account for inflation, 200 quid was worth a lot more money back then. Autotune isn't always a bad thing it's a production technique to make someone sound better, like reverb. You think Bowie always sounds like he's singing in a cave? Autotune isn't always a bad thing.

Apr 24, 2012 - and the majority of modern music IS genuine, yes there is endless bullshit on the radio that's turns your ears into sludge but skim between the surface and you'll find that real music never died you just have to find it. Take Rival Sons for example you could not get more classic rock if you tried but they don't get massive radio play because that's not what the record companies want to push as the mainstream at the moment.
SuperJoshanater Says:
Apr 25, 2012 - Exactly, it's not mainstream. And that's what people want to be these days, mainstream. You already have to search for genuine music now days, but know one wants to be part of the non-mainstream music like this. Record companies think times have moved on and don't want to push forward stuff like this and that's not gonna change. The rate this is going by 20 years everyone will think the classics are crap like dubstep. Music has changed, and so much is technology these days!

Apr 17, 2012 - Maybe so but you have to search a fucking lot harder to find great music today. You never had to "search" in the 60's, you couldn't avoid it. Everything was brilliant, OK not everything but a hell of a lot!
