Oct 30, 2011 - This scene was filmed on a beach in Kauai called Lumahai beach. I was so excited to be there with my new wife. We loved the movie.

Feb 9, 2012 - It's weird how one of the notable technical achievements of this film is the one that ignorant people are bashing the most. Maybe you need to ask what Robert Osborne thinks of the "garish colors" of South Pacific and how "mastering the use of composition and tone to capture the desired emotional framing of a scene was an art that very few cinematographers were able to wield with any great success"Used to be if you could find your way around online, you had a brain. Now I just don't know anymore

Feb 9, 2012 - I´ve been in the south pacific. The real colors are fantastic!
swadsworthadams Says:
Feb 10, 2012 - You're both crazy. The colors are beautiful and hypnotic. It helps the audience understand how the soldiers feel. They were using pictures to tell a story, and color tinting to accentuate the emotions of the soldiers as they listen to the song, which is pretty cool. The color tint was a conscious artistic choice (sure it was a kind of flag waving for color film) but you ought to give the filmmakers some credit. BALI HAI!!!!

Feb 21, 2012 - Hall sometimes had to pass for Asian to get jobs on Broadway. This was her most famous role. This also earned her the first Tony awarded to an African American. She played part for close to 2,000 performances onstage and was the only cast member from the original Broadway production to star in the 1958 movie version.

Mar 4, 2012 - Wow, you people will go to incredible lengths to cover your story that color was in films in the fifties, forties and even in the thrities when we had mostly silent pictures. Amazing. It is funny that, when I was four years old, there were no films in color whatsoever.

FetaCheese222 Says:
May 13, 2012 - Colour in film has been as early as the 1902 with films that were hand coloured frame-by-frame.And there certainly weren't "mostly" silents in the thirties. By 1931 the industry was well on to sound film.
ThePerchance Says:
May 13, 2012 - I completely agree. Sad.
ThePerchance Says:
May 13, 2012 - Yes. The color remarkably captures a thrilling moment; any film critic would agree with this.
Duane Templeton Says:
May 18, 2012 - Calm down if you want. This is one of the most beautiful songs ever done. Get back to loving each other, if you want. It is really your choice.
