Title: Turning Bible Verse Into Manifesto for Maniacs

Added: Nov 18, 2009

Author: GateKeeper50hotmail

Duration: 8:11

Description:
Rachel Maddow discusses with Frank Schaeffer the possible threat to the president by a member of the "American ...Taliban" inspired by the bible verse Psalm 109:8. From Brad Blog: (http://www.bradblog.com/?p=7528) The wingnuttery continues to devolve. Last night, Rachel Maddow covered, among other recently related points, the new Rightwing "Pray for Obama" movement supporting, and selling merchandise in support of, Psalms 109:8 which begins this way: "Let his days be few; and let another take his office," and continues with "Let his children be fatherless, and his wife a widow."Frank Schaeffer, repentant former rightwing fundamentalist evangelical, and now a contributor here at The BRAD BLOG, was on her show last night to discuss that point, and where it seems to signal that things may be frighteningly headed. He also raised another point, in condemnation of critics on the Left, with which I'll offer a slight quibble. The video of the full Maddow interview follows, along with a crucial excerpt from the text transcript, and my thoughts on where I disagree with one of Frank's now-repeated assertions...

Jan 28, 2010 - People like this are the reason religion is becoming obsolete. no matter how hard you try, you wash over the hatred using a so called "loving god." Christians should practice what Jesus taught no act like the religious nuts of the day.

ChristianNewsWatch Says:

Jan 30, 2010 - Agreed.... there is a revolution going on within Christianity with many believers rebelling against the hate/hell mongers who have hijacked mainstream Christianity and used it for political / religious oppression / gain. Peace be with you ;-)

KingofDarkness0025 Says:

Jan 30, 2010 - You too. That's good that many believers are rebelling against these hate mongers. Hatred has no place in the modern world. Without tolerance humanity could not move forward.

JMcH Says:

Feb 5, 2010 - Let it be known that this is the first time in recorded history that liberals gave a damn about the context of a Bible verse.Hey liberals, let me remind you of your own favorite out-of-context Bible verse:"Judge not, lest ye be judged."

IAMJESUSmovie Says:

Feb 10, 2010 - Jesus Christ has returned. I AM.

5355vbxjbj76rvn Says:

Feb 12, 2010 - ## Pity the context shows that the death of the person is being sought. What is *really* ironic is that the quotation may be part of a speech, by the Psalmist, complaining of the ill-will of his enemies, so that "Let his days..." may be *Psalmist's* quotation of *their* ill-will toward him. The speaker would then - in modern terms - be *Obama*, complaining of the hate of his Christian enemies who want his death :) Instead of the words of his enemies calling for his death.

lostsendhelp Says:

Feb 14, 2010 - "Judge not, lest ye be judged" also isn't a threat. Also, some people really will take it as "open season". Because... they're stupid. Or crazy.

adeleellie6 Says:

Apr 18, 2010 - Are you kidding? Christian terrorists hate secularism, hate homosexuals, think the world is only a few thousand years old, believe in religious law, think women should stay at home, condemn sex before marriage and think it's okay to kill those who disagree with them. They also hate Washington, New York and Hollywood.Same difference. I just spelled it better.

shortypraise06 Says:

Sep 23, 2010 - JESUS, JESUS, JESUS

richwfd2002 Says:

Oct 23, 2010 - Hey idiot. Let me remind you, or inform you if you didn't already know. The gospel writers were not eyewitnesses and were anonymous. Mark, the first to be written was authored about 60 AD. These books were not written by Matthew, Mark, Luke and John, but were written anonymously and these names were inserted later. The original manuscripts have not even been found. These are copies of copies of copies. You conskervatives know less about your buy bull than non-believers. Pathetic.

JMcH Says:

Oct 23, 2010 - - The sources for your information have a vested interest in asserting those claims to be true. Believe me -- I used to be an atheist who thought exactly as you do. Then I actually stopped mindlessly swallowing the lies, opened up my mind, did the research and found the facts and the Truth.

richwfd2002 Says:

Oct 24, 2010 - I've considered the possibility that the "debunkers" might have a vested interest in spreading "lies" and found it to be untrue in many cases. There is often a grieving period for these people, as well as myself, when we come to the realization that the foundation for these beliefs is shaky at best. I believe that the preachers have a vested interest in validating their beliefs for emotional and financial reasons. Emotional attachment to belief does not make it true.....

richwfd2002 Says:

Oct 24, 2010 - I have considered the possibility that "vested interest" might be a motivator for the debunkers, but I have also done research and read the bible. The truth is that these "debunkers", including myself, often go through a grieving process when they realize the shakiness of their previously heald beliefs. Emotional attachment to certain beliefs does not make them true. Emotional blackmail and appeal are bad motivators for so called "faith". What I said before is probably true.

richwfd2002 Says:

Nov 16, 2010 - LOL. You're funny. At least I hope that was sarcasm, but you never know on here.........

BIBLEisMARKofBEAST Says:

Dec 7, 2010 - The BIBLE is the MARK of the BEAST! Constantine (1st beast) legalized Christianity and had 50 bibles compiled. King James, homo (2nd beast) 666 # of a man, born 1566, 6th of Scotland, authorized 66 book bible, image of God's word, carried in your hand, memorized in your head, made to speak (the bible says) and is used as an object of worship. Feb 22, 2011 - Yes I agree with you. Fundamentalism of any kind wether it's christian or moslim is dangerous. I hope the republican extremists don't kill this man. They might even harm his family.

roguetrip99 Says:

Feb 25, 2011 - Somebody should let these "Christians" know that criticizing the president is treason and anti-American. You can bet if someone "prayed" for Bush in this manner, they'd be screaming for blood.

YourWrong951 Says:

May 22, 2011 - Psalms 109:8, why are you reading verse 9 if the verse is 8 and im sure if revelations was a little bit closer to the verse you would be using the chapter of the ten headed dragon.
