Title: Ray LaMontagne - To Love Somebody
Added: Nov 3, 2009
Author: MishaRW
Duration: 6:14
Description:
Ray LaMontagne covers "To Love Somebody" at the Fox Theatre in Atlanta, GA, on November 1, 2009. Ray speaks! The songs were gorgeous, as always, but I'll remember this concert more for the onstage banter. Here Ray talks about how he used to play in the dark, but he doesn't do that anymore because "people get angry at you when they can't see you . . . " : )

Jun 23, 2011 - yeah I've seen him twice before (in Glasgow, Scotland) and he was mostly quiet but when he did talk he was funny and interesting. like you said he's still a great live performer, even if he does not say much.

Sep 22, 2011 - I swear to God, I thought he was black until I first saw him. So much soul, it's ridiculous.

Oct 21, 2011 - Was one of my favourite artists for a long time at an important part of my life....sadly he turned very country and western which was a big shock and disappointment for me..though i still thank you for what you did for me raymond :)

Oct 24, 2011 - I would never go as far to say that he went "very country and western" I do know what you mean though. After he released his latest album you could tell it wasn't the same as Trouble or his other earlier albums. If anything I would lean more to saying he went more folk. But yeah I understand what you mean he strayed a bit from what he was originally. I honestly think its because it used to be more centered around just him and his guitar and now his music is more about the whole band.

Nov 4, 2011 - He never turned country and western. He's actually headed back towards his roots quite a bit. If you've listened to his old original albums such as One Lonesome Saddle, you'd find his roots are very strong in southern folk and Americana. Ray has added a new dimension with every album he's put out. He's been treating his voice as an instrument from his gritty vocal days of Trouble, to his breathy vocals throughout Gossip, to his higher register in BSB.

Nov 28, 2011 - Ray and Jeff are my absolute favourites as well. There is something similar to them. Not the music, but just an energy that is puts me in mind of both of them . And Ray does some funny banter in between songs like Jeff.

Mar 26, 2012 - Ray Lamontagne is a brilliant genius - one of the best live artists today. I hope Janis Joplin was a influence - I lover her version of "To Love Somebody" the best. Ray LaMontagne is right on up there in a whole new light - what a gift.
