Actually in a sense he is right, but, the 4.5 billion is the age of the Earth and life iis about 3.8 billions years old.Camrbian rocks are 500 millions years old. So the gap of 4 billions of years is not used to prove evolution!only 500 millions of years are discussed in Evolution! What about teh sedimentation rate! the formation of chalk and flint???

But he meant that a terrestrial animal can adapted to aquatic environement such as sea lion!Darwin never said that platypus was a transition between and beaver and a duck....because this is not how evolution works...You need to learn more about New in science than just XIXth century' science...
