Jun 19, 2011 - @hollydoden Be SO glad your country has never converted. As an elementary student (gr. 5-1980) I was told by my math teacher (more than once) not to put commas between large numbers, 25,000 for example, because we (Canada) had converted to the "System International" (Metric). Sounds silly, and that's putting it mildly. In '83, road signs displaying times changed to "military time", or as our news called it "metric time". Read my posts on "US switch to Metric", don't mind the "bad" words.

Sep 22, 2011 - OMG, you dont know how much you've just helped me! I've been looking all over for a simple way to figure out the system. I've never had to know the metric system before now and I was seriously on the verge of failing! Still have a lot of practice to do but hopefully with your vids I'll do a lot better!

Dec 12, 2011 - This is a great explanation of how to convert metric units. FYI--Educational Insights sells a Magnetic Metric Staircase which is useful for teachers who don't want to have to keep drawing the staircase every day.

Feb 4, 2012 - I see some problems right in the first minute of this lesson. She's using all capital letters for the prefixes, but the ones for sub-Base measures should be lowercase m for milli instead of capital M for mega, and you can't tell big D deka from small d deci.I was taught that the symbol for liter is a lowercase *script* l: ℓ, because a regular one looks too much like a capital I or the digit one. If this has changed I didn't get the memo.Micro, if you get that far, is lowercase Greek mu: μ.
