May 2, 2011 - Avatar was written before Pocahontas in 1993 and Pocahontas was released in 1995. Cameron did announced in 96 that he was gonna make the movie for a 99 release date but decided in 98 to put the script in a drawer and wait for the technology to do justice to his vision in a decade.
