May 8, 2012 - its really very simple actually... the force on each car is inversely proportional to the stopping time, and since the stopping time will be the same in both cases, the force on each car is the same. youre thinking about kinetic energy, which isnt important when judging the severity of a collision

zorandesign Says:

May 8, 2012 - I will just tell you - hitting the wall with 120mph, is same as two, same cars, hitting face-to-face with ~85mph. Use, law of work and law of momentum(impulst conservation). Work has to be equal in the two cases. So, W=W1+W2...m1v1=m2v2=p , m1=m2, v2=v1, W=(mv^2/)2=(mv1^2/)2+(mv1^2)/2, >>>> v1=v/sqrt(2).....do the math.

PooGGay Says:

May 8, 2012 - hmm, thats quite interesting, and certainly not very intuitive. thanks for the insight

davesw12007 Says:

May 11, 2012 - On the plus side, the concrete survived quite well

TheVegastrucker Says:

May 13, 2012 - @zorandesign the problem with what your saying is it doesnt work that way in real life... Mythbuster have tested this and 2 vehicles impacting head on doesnt multiple the impact...

rizud30 Says:

May 14, 2012 - EuroNCAP, let's make those tests more stringent, shall we?

sorion4071 Says:

May 15, 2012 - 400 G..that's rampage

clansman89 Says:

May 15, 2012 - Why the fuck didn't they put real sound of a crash??

kuzbass777 Says:

May 15, 2012 - Take it to some Ukrainian guys in Sacramento or Armenian guys in Los Angeles, they drive cars that were even worse than this :) Of course not all of them like that but I have seen some fixed car that I would be afraid to put my worst enemy in.

JennaRoseNumberOne Says:

May 16, 2012 - 3:18 the airbag went off but popped. Also why the hell didn't they empty the gas tank before they did this...

Aguinaldo06 Says:

May 18, 2012 - well you don't drive with an empty tang gas, this test is real life situation.

Paul21691 Says:

May 18, 2012 - Quick calculation: i weight 225 pounds. if i were in a car in an accident at that speed i would for a single moment weigh 90000 pounds or a smudge over 40 tonnes. Wow

bulldog5046 Says:

May 19, 2012 - There are a number of unrealistic factors here. For a start its a 12 year old car! a focus is really going to struggle to reach 120mph. And, if your stupid enough to accelerate to that speed where there is going to be a solid concrete block able to stop you dead in 68ms, then maybe you deserved it for utter stupidity.

JamesR1978 Says:

May 19, 2012 - That'll buff out

mrClayton1969 Says:

May 19, 2012 - Relax, all right? My old man is a television repairman, he's got this ultimate set of tools. I can fix it.

CAAccord Says:

May 20, 2012 - wow this video will totally make me think twice about driving at 200 kph towards a solid steel wall! I might get hurt or something!

iMakeRand0mVids Says:

May 20, 2012 - i call the trunk

B0ZZ3H Says:

May 21, 2012 - So, what was the safety rating?

uk285 Says:

May 21, 2012 - erm we had a focus and its top speed on the spedo was 140mph meaing it would be able to get to 120 a 2004 ford fiesta can get to 127mph so a slightly older focus will do that easily

Ionik32 Says:

May 21, 2012 - Anyone know the guitar tune used at beginning?

RikMcCloud Says:

May 22, 2012 - This test is misleading. This would not happen if two cars crashed into each other at 60mph. Watch the related video from Mythbusters entitled "Car crash force" to see how it would actually occur. However, there is one thing that is certain. Your chances for survival at a crash at that speed into another car, no matter how strong the car is or how good the restraints are minimal. The forces exerted on the body will cause internal injuries that would prove life threatening.

speedinginmyporsche Says:

May 23, 2012 - 400G's gotta be awesome

DaniSporting96 Says:

May 25, 2012 - A kidnapped person in the trunk will survive? mmm

eclecticzebra1 Says:

May 26, 2012 - The video states they are simulating a crash in which both vehicles are traveling at 120 mph, not 60.
