Dec 13, 2011 - Those things really can stop on a dime!

Dec 14, 2011 - Pretty awesome, but is anyone there afraid that the sand will get into the plane and wreak havoc on the engine and other vital parts?

Dec 14, 2011 - I just like to see the planes. Reading what some of these losers have to say, swearing cause they don't know english, is really pathetic. Can they fly?

Jan 1, 2012 - a very efficient way of delivering "democracy"
ElectroCannibal Says:
Jan 4, 2012 - C130's are flying tanks. They can go anywhere and do whatever they want. I Ianded in one in a cross wind with the plane coming in at a 45 degree angle down the runway at Ft. Irwin. I thought we were all gonna die.

Feb 17, 2012 - Isn't that where the Trislander lands regularly? Took a flight in a Herc from Gatow back in the early 70's. At take off I was sat at the back of the flight deck with a grand view of the runway ahead. Perhaps I have exaggerated this in my mind since, but after revving up the engines and releasing the brake, I swear the darn nose bounced well into the air in it's eagerness to get going! The crew flew us all round the Berlin airspace for a while, then went back to Gatow for some circuits & bumps.

Mar 18, 2012 - Freeze the video at 0:18 and it looks as though there's some things -- people? -- on the sand just beyond the Hercules' starboard wing. At 0:19, they disappear from view behind the body of the Hercules, never to be seen again... [cue Twilight Zone music?]

Mar 27, 2012 - Although beach landings do prove the C-130's capabilities they do try to avoid them at all costs out in the field. I know here they are practicing soft surface landings but the salt water that splash's up onto the fuselage & props plays havok due to corrosion. The whole aircraft has to be completely washed over which isn't a 5min job lol
xVeRSeii Says:
Apr 11, 2012 - Why did it land then turn around and takeoff ?
Flaps50trimsneutral Says:
Apr 25, 2012 - Big hill/cliff north of the beach! You can see the hotel on it. Would kind of prove to be a problem if you had an engine failure on take off. Westerly winds mean you can land one way and depart another. Also quicker than backtracking down the beach.
Hercman24 Says:
Apr 28, 2012 - "flaps 50 trims neutral" not really appropriate here - that's the call for a roller landing (touch &go if you'd prefer)
bobcoleable Says:
Apr 30, 2012 - Was that you flying over the Heerstrasse Flats keeping my kids awake?
sjmachrihanish Says:
Apr 30, 2012 - Hah! Sorry about that, but I think it just to keep old Hess awake!Actually, when I cast my mind back, it was the C5A Galaxy on its way into Templehof that used to cast the biggest shadow over our place (on Gatow) and make the window frames rattle. Those were the days...still got any copies of the Berlin Bulletin?!
bobcoleable Says:
Apr 30, 2012 - I remember the Galaxy at the tattoo..Hey! I reversed a ten ton truck into the back door of a herc at Gatow, It was delivering the Junior Leaders Gymnastics team,I told the Erk with the chock on the end of a stick i didnt need it, but he did insist.Doh!
sjmachrihanish Says:
Apr 30, 2012 - I'll wager that's the first time you aired that to the world! The only folk that don't make mistakes are the ones that don't do anything. Yeah, the C5 at the open day... we all shuffled in through the nose and it spewed us out down the tail ramp. How it all comes back: one hot summer at Gatow a flight of visiting RAF Dominie jets [navigator trainer versions of the HS125] got stuck as the tarmac melted. You would have thought the ramp was concrete! I wonder if Summit House is still there....
Flaps50trimsneutral Says:
May 3, 2012 - Hercman you are correct that is the call on a roller, but it is also certainly very appropriate here. Having landed with 100 flap and trims in use. As you taxi for the next departure, where do you think we would put the flaps and trims? "Flaps50trimsneutral";-))
Flaps50trimsneutral Says:
May 17, 2012 - They magically reappear at 1:43. Teleported to the other side of the beach. ;-))

May 17, 2012 - Lockheed builds the best planes !
edwardsweeney24 Says:
May 17, 2012 - They do make great planes, however, I think the A400M is the C-130, but better!
MovieMad007 Says:
May 23, 2012 - Practice for the top gear programme????
