Since there has been discussion about this video's meaning and the feelings this song portrays of fairytales, I thought I might give my own interpretation. If you happen to not agree, I'm happy to explain my views via personal messages, NOT via comments, thank you.In my personal experiences and beliefs, I wholeheartedly agree with this song, which is why I loved making this lyrics video for it. I may sound like a weirdo here, but I don't think that anyone should just wait around for that perfect person to come "save" them. If that has happened to you and you believe it's worked out, I say good for you! I just don't believe it's something I should bank on happening to myself, or really anyone. Now, I'm not ragging on fairytales or anything; I personally LOVE fairytales, but I don't love the ideas they always portray. In my own opinion, I believe that we can go out and find that person whom we love. I'd like to believe that just sitting on my butt and waiting for my "fairytale ending" will just leave me alone and disappointed. Now anyone who does believe in that and believes it's happened to them personally, that's alright, too! I'm happy for you, really. Mar 23, 2012 - To me, this song is explaining how ridiculous those old fairytales can be. I think the lyrics explain how those stories would play out in modern reality. So, the overall message in the song is that fairytale endings don't really happen in real life. They're just that... fairytales.

Apr 4, 2012 - I was literally OBSESSED with Sara when I was - get this - six (along with the warrior cats series). I loved the tunes of her songs and knew little of the the lyrics meant :P its a shame that I cant listen to these songs now without remembering my 1st grade problems haha

Apr 5, 2012 - I think that a real princess would be able to forge her way into the world to find the right guy. What if your prince is unable to journey and find you for some reason? It takes two to tango, and the girl can't just sit and be docile forever. Sara Bareilles has the best songs.

Apr 10, 2012 - That's a good interpretation. To me it's like Sara is watching all these girls, desperate for love and going out with whoever they can get but if they see a better boy then they'll leave the first for him. It kinda goes with your as well because they give up on the first thinking that the other is closer to their prince charming and they are constantly searching for that one perfect man.
