He probably would have played it quite differently in a stage performance. Here the camera [that is, the viewer] climbs to the highest turret in the castle, sees the waves crashing below, thinks of jumping, and enters Hamlet's brain from behind. Also very strong use of the knife. A movie must show us, not merely tell us. Olivier accomplishes this quite daringly.

May 1, 2012 - Every time I read this play(it's one of my faves), I hear Mr. Olivier's voice when I get to Hamlet's lines. He will always be the best Hamlet to me.
