Title: The Intercept Method - YourTeacher.com - Algebra Help
Added: Apr 23, 2008
Author: yourteachermathhelp
Duration: 2:37
Description:
For a complete lesson on graphing lines using the intercept method, go to http://www.yourteacher.com - 1000+ online math lessons featuring a personal math teacher inside every lesson! In this lesson, students learn to graph a given linear equation using the intercept method. The x-intercept is the point on the graph where the line crosses the x-axis, so the x-intercept will always have a y-coordinate of 0, and the y-intercept is the point on the graph where the line crosses the y-axis, so the y-intercept will always have an x-coordinate of 0. So to graph x + 2y = 6 using the intercept method, substitute a 0 in for y to find the x-intercept, to get x + 2(0) = 6, or x = 6. So the x-intercept is (6, 0). And substitute a 0 in for x to find the y-intercept, to get (0) + 2x = 6, or x = 3. So the y-intercept is (0, 3). Next, plot the intercepts, (6, 0) and (0, 3), and connect these points with a line.

Mar 17, 2012 - thank god for people in the world like this guy, who can actually teach maths. I should have just watched these video's through high school instead of trying to interpret the jibberish those teachers were dishing out.

Mar 19, 2012 - I had to redo all my Algebra 1 H.W from the past 2 weeks, roughly 10 sheets. I had no idea what to do, because I had no idea what the hell my teacher was teaching me. Then I looked on Youtube and found this guy. It took him around 10 minutes for me to understand 2 weeks of material. Moral of the story; I wish this this guy was my teacher.

Apr 7, 2012 - Very good, but it's a little too involved. I would have simply used rise/run = 3/1 with Y intercept of -6 as the starting point.
