Aug 11, 2011 - maybe it has some themes and catchy music, but generally it's an appealing chick flick formula: the appeal for (mostly young) women of a story where the main character is a woman who gets a gorgeous guy who helps her discover her potential as a woman. sort of like how "guy" movies generally are about a man who plays by his own rules, beats the odds and gets a gorgeous woman because of how badass he is.

Aug 11, 2011 - in short, they make movies like this because so many people go to the movies to indulge a fantasy about themselves. they get to "win" vicariously through the protagonist for a couple of hours. this particular movie indulges the fantasy of dancing with a handsome and talented guy and having him save you from a life of boredom and control of authorities (ie: culture, religion, parents, school) and be totally in love with you despite himself.
