Feb 11, 2012 - Its a matter of preference a compound will let you aim longer but a lot of people prefer the feel of a recurve

beaglesdc Says:

Feb 11, 2012 - i would pick neither i would make a California style bow look it up but if you don't like that i would pick a recurve bow

beaglesdc Says:

Feb 11, 2012 - i too am a young bow maker and one of two things and one that works is when you cut your staff thin the staff down about a 1/2 inch larger than you want your bow to be and then weigh it to see how much it weights write that down and every day weight it and as soon as it stops loosing weight for about 5 days finish your bow for shooting and when you string it gradually draw the string about an inch at a time

Mar 16, 2012 - don't you need to soak the wood in water first to neutralize the pitch? i hear it makes it more flexible so it does not break.

Apr 6, 2012 - do you want your stave to always be from the trunk of a sapling or young tree? or does a branch work just as well.

Apr 19, 2012 - You can get really good leverage by clamping the grips down on something, then using a screw driver, drift pin, or whatever you have handy to turn the eye bolt a bit more. They can really save you a lot of time and effort, not to mention get really good clamping force on something. I picked some of that stuff up when working in the building trades as a tin knocker.
