Angry, drunken revellers ran wild on Wednesday night after the Vancouver Canucks' 4-0 loss to Boston in Game 7 of the Stanley Cup finals, setting cars and garbage cans ablaze, smashing windows, showering giant TV screens with beer bottles and dancing atop overturned vehicles. Later, looters smashed windows and ran inside department stores. There were no immediate indications of injuries, although images were shown on television of at least one woman mopping blood from her forehead. Vancouver Mayor Gregor Robertson praised the police and firefighters and asked people to stay away from the central downtown area. Tear gas mingled with the stench of acrid smoke and stale beer as riot police, truncheons drawn, moved in to quell the violence, pushing crowds away from the burning cars. Later, police cars also were set on fire.

May 26, 2012 - Just as a starting point, when the protesters start ASSAULTING police... maybe it's time to give them a little slack to deal with them. Lord help you if I were a policeman at a meaningless riot, you'd quickly understand how much you want to be doing something else... maybe something productive. It brings me great joy to see police smacking protesters around, 99.98% of the time it's MORE than called for, and LONG overdue.

May 9, 2012 - I live in Vancouver...There are other countries rioting because they have no food and are being executed in the street, while the people here riot because of Hockey!? "group mentality" is a pathetic excuse for the week minded to hide behind. If you took part in the riot or were too stupid to leave the area once the violence started you deserve any retribution that comes your way. Stop blaming the cops for your pathetic life.
