This video was created in order to explain anybody what is rendering and why distributed rendering (and Renderfarm.fi) is useful.By using Renderfarm.fi, graphic artists and animators benefit from the ability to use higher image quality and higher resolution when rendering. Renderfarm.fi also enables and encourages everybody to participate in the rendering of stills and animations, regardless of whether they themselves are able to do 3D graphics. It takes only five minutes to volunteer. Mar 26, 2012 - Taking longer than 5 minutes for me. I have the software set up but its not taking any jobs. I left my computer running for 8 hours today.. Still did not take any jobs. During that time I had submitted my own work... and it got rendered out completely on other computers via renderfarm.fi, but my computer was still untouched. Any Ideas as to why i have been unsuccessful in volunteering my cycles?

Mar 28, 2012 - Hi and big thanks for volunteering! Those WU's go really fast so you could have just missed them when launched the session from our side. We also recently started implementing a mode where we split particular sessions to particular operating systems. As surprising as it might be, each OS actually produces slightly varied results. By doing this we minimize the possibility that these variations end up wasting resources upon reaching our validator.

May 10, 2012 - Hi and thanks for your interest! In order for the client computers to contribute they have to have a copy of the rendering software. We cannot distribute copyrighted software to which we don't have the licenses to, which is why we've so far focused on Blender (which is open source). From a technical point of view there's no reason why we couldn't support most other render engines as well, however this would require the companies owning the rights to those engines to allow us to do so.
