Title: 1948 Winter Olympics Figure Skating - Dick Button and Barbara Ann Scott

Added: Nov 17, 2009

Author: floskate

Duration: 6:28

Description:
Here's the most footage I have ever seen of this event and as well as lengthy portions of Button and Scott we get to see their rivals, Edi Rada in mens and Gretchen Merrill together with (rather strangely) Jill Linzee of Great Britain who finished 19th!! We also see practice clips of the pairs winners, Micheline Lannoy and Pierre Baugniet together with Canadian bronze medallists Suzanne Morrow and Wally Diestelmeyer. Amazing historical footage I hope you enjoy it!

Jan 31, 2010 - Thanks SO MUCH for posting - I've seen this footage before but not with such wonderful picture quality - wasn't BAS lovely - what amazes me about the pre-triple skaters is their magnificent spins. So tight, fast, and perfectly centered. Really there is a lot more to skating than jumps and its a shame the focus on quality spins, intermediate moves like mazurkas, chocktaws, bunny hops and stag leaps have all but disappeared from the sport.

Nov 4, 2010 - Figure skating is definately more... artistic. As in it has more dance incorporated into it now a days.

Dec 29, 2010 - Thank you for posting this. I can't imagine where you found it. So much has changed in the years; I'll never understand the bent free leg on the landings of jumps.

Mar 20, 2011 - thanks for this clip - I haven't seen a lot of skating vids from the 40's, I enjoyed seeing Button and Scott here, as well as some skaters I had not heard of before.

Jun 24, 2011 - If skaters in Juvenile or novice traveled back in time, they would win the competitions. So amazing how figure skating evolved because of these great champions. Thanks for the upload.
