Oct 27, 2010 - the problem is the speed, the Timberjack travels too slow for profit in unavigatable terrain. Thats why they use Helicopter Logging in those areas instead. the loggers travel on foot, Top a tree and flag it. then get it ready to be yanked out by a helicopter. I think there is a show about it now too.
Goblineng Says:
Nov 2, 2010 - I hadn't considered helicopter based logging, I was only thinking of trucks. Okay I suppose its not very practical, at least not right now. On another note, I think 'walkers' should be researched more, since they have quite a bit of potential if made viable. But it seems like most companies are only interested in what works in the here and now.

Goblineng Says:
Oct 26, 2010 - The Timberjack hexapod walker is very practical for logging, since its legs let it travel over terrain that most heavy logging equipment can't. As much as I love the creativity involved here, I don't see many practicalities to it, especially compared to tracked or wheeled vehicles. But it is very cool looking ^_^
