May 26, 2012 - Ahh, that is why I asked. No, some do wear knuckle protectors in this video, many of the film clips are older when when we didn't use Knuckle Protectors at all. What you see here are highlights of high level competition, sometimes contact is unavoidable, for many reasons. Rules get a little more complicated for youth. Shotokan generally is not full contact, but can appear to be at times, and is not beyond it. I hope this was helpful, I know it is somewhat nebulous.
