Mar 2, 2012 - The greatest invention to ever come out of the USA is and will always be Jazz. What you are listening to is more than music. It is single handedly responsible for allowing the world to appreciate us. It has been our universal representative of good even with countries that don't like us. All modern music has roots to Jazz whether it be Rock, Rap, Country, etc. Don't just listen to the notes. Understand the origins and how it ties us all together and forever will help us create and innovate.

Mar 2, 2012 - To understand Jazz is to know it has no ties to race, creed or religion. It is for everyone and belongs to no one.

Mar 17, 2012 - Nuance. Many of the contemporaries of Basie said that he expressed more in the silences in-between the notes he played. He was a big band leader. On the road. 'Basie' was in the neon at the theater. But he was subtile (spel?) and took solos when appropriate. The stars were his band. Yet when he did something like this in small groups or with the band... what else did we miss by his humility?

Apr 7, 2012 - I think in the near future, with paranoid and trigger happy Americans, life in the US will be challenging for good people...so they will immigrate to the north

Apr 22, 2012 - I love the contrast. I had the feeling that Basie was reining Oscar in and maybe he was playing off Oscar a little. This video captures the true spirit of jazz IMO. I have a lot of recordings of both of these giants. It's a treat to hear them play together.
