Jun 30, 2011 - I believe my dad probably flew many times as a passenger with that "old war veteran" many times during the 1980s if he piloted 737s and 727s throughout Alaska.Kent, do you have a link that shows these DC-3 segments in sequence? I've shown my dad the awesome B29 and B25 clips, but it's tough to figure out the sequence of these DC-3 ferry segments. Thanks for posting these!

Oct 17, 2011 - The DC-3's are a WW2 era aeroplane, i don't think they'd invented auto-pilots back then..

Oct 30, 2011 - Good comment.....The most iconic aircraft in aviation history has just landed in daylight.....and, "What type of aircraft is that?"......uh.....Think real hard!
TalksWithDirt Says:
Oct 30, 2011 - Every time I see a DC-3 on approach or a 737-400+ they two aircraft remind me of the other. If I had a few tens of millions to throw around I'd develop a DC-3 sized aircraft, in tail dragger config, with a pressurized cabin but powered by turbofans. A jet version of the DC-3 made to do the same missions these old birds are still doing. In the 90's I was impressed that there were so many DC-3's still flying, and I even more amazed they still are. Wonderful.
bboucharde Says:
Oct 30, 2011 - Thanks for your thoughts. I agree 100%. Some aircraft reached a peak of near perfection decades ago, and the DC-3 is one of them. I would include the Boeing 747 in that category, in a different scale, of course. The Boeing B-29 comes to mind, too---once the engine cooling problems were generally resolved.
