It is not really a question of accepting homosexuality, it is a question of letting some people who have no respect for Trek as it actually was, trying to reinvent the characters to suit their sexual kink. Both of them were clearly capable of being attracted to/in love with women, but there is some pretty blatant subtext and general flirtatiousness between K/S in TOS. And if you read Kirk's quote from the novelization in the proper context, you'll see that he's really carefully saying nothing, and manages to avoid the question.

For more info I'd suggest looking up "The Ships Closet" and watching those. And why do anti-K/S fans always assume that its always just about sex?
