Oct 22, 2010 - Oh wow, I thought it would be a surgeon at first glace considering how the gloves are on and the cut she had to make. I would not think an RN could do it, but maybe she has some other specializations.

Nov 4, 2010 - I had three done (4 but the first one I was asleep for) and it prety much sucks.... idk about anyone else here who's had one, but it really anoys me when people complain about the yearly flu shots....I've had 3 picc lines and a crapload of other needles worse than flu shots....

Nov 28, 2010 - I hope you never got a catheter related blood stream infection from your PICC line! The PICC nurse Bonnie totally contaminated her sterile field predisposing you for an infection. She touched your shirt with her tape measure then put the contaminated tape measure on her sterile field....right next to if not on the PICC she was going to insert. Total contamination!!!

TheNationOfTim Says:

Nov 29, 2010 - Thank you for your comment...I did not receive any neg side effects from the insertion of the 2 PICC lines she put in me....The first one was pre-transplant and the second one was a couple of months later when i re-lapsed due to complications from the chemo/radiation/drug combos....and if i was ever in need of another PICC line i would not think twice about going back to Bonnie in a hot second....i am 21 months post transplant and leukemia free... Be Well...

Dec 31, 2010 - - the video was not put up for educational purposes......i am the 36yr guy with Leukemia laying on the table scared out of my FN mind about having to get a PICC line in the first place and thinking about the Chemo and Radiation i am going to be put though in the next 5 days....Nurse Bonnie made me feel at ease and comfortable with what she was doing....in the event i ever have to get one of these again i can say there would be NO hesitation in returning to Bonnie for another PICC..

Jan 19, 2011 - I am glad you made it through all your treatments okay. Glad to read that you're in remission! I am getting a PICC put in tomorrow because I am undergoing ECT treatments and I am difficult to get an IV in, so my doc wants me to have a more permanent line. Thanks for posting this, even if you didn't intend for it to be educational, it was definitely informative for me.

Jan 25, 2011 - its feels a lil odd going in but in the long run it was well worth it...i have been stuck by so many needles in the last few years it was a refreshing break for the time i had it...they were able to draw blood with ease as well as give me all the good stuff my body needed to get healthy again....!! i just wanted to share with my friends and family what i was actually going through...one important thing to remember is to attack your pain with a smile.....i did my best to always smile!

kubu79 Says:

Mar 12, 2011 - not exactly so.A nurse's primary goal is the patient's safety! You needed a mask as well. A PICC line insertion is a sterile procedure! That means everything getting into contact w/ the insertion site MUST be sterile..your cough or breath could contaminate that site! Your head as well should face the opposite side of insertion. These are all called safety guidelines and need to be performed each time this procedure is performed! What if you were a patient with AIDS or transplanted?

TheNationOfTim Says:

Jun 10, 2011 - - sorry to burst your bubble....but i did not get an infection...i went on to have chemo and radiation the next day and 6 days after this picc line was put in i received my new immune system....i am now 2.5 yrs post BMT and i am in full remission....this video was not put up for educational purposes...it was put up to show and share with people in my life what exactly i was going through was receiving treatment for the Leukemia i had...there is much more life left in me. Be Well

Jun 13, 2011 - That sterile area was so little and the needle into the arm was so free to move out of the vessel during the guidewire insertion! Anyway respect to nurse Bonnie :)A question for PICC line positioners: dont u use intracavitary ekg tecnique? I do.Bye from Italy

bmbrunomar Says:

Jun 13, 2011 - Ops. I forgot my greetings to ThenationofTim... Ciao ciao

winterskies12 Says:

Jul 8, 2011 - Before I had my port placed, there was a really awesome nurse who would always put my PICC's in. She was extremely good at what she did, and always put me at ease. I got to the point where I would joke and talk with her during the procedure. Gotta love those awesome nurses like her and Bonnie!

segovian Says:

Aug 29, 2011 - Technically, for a PICC line the pt does not need a mask. For an IJ or Port, yes.

amanda08312003 Says:

Nov 12, 2011 - I thank you for sharing your experience with us all and I know you are not looking for negative comments, but as a nursing student I can't help but notice that this wasn't done as sterile as it was supposed to have been....She did do an amazing job though and she seemed to make you very comfortable and ease..Thanks again for sharing!! And good luck with your journey :)

Stoozor Says:

Nov 23, 2011 - No, the goal is to put all the odd in your favor for you to make it alive... a.k.a. not get sicker with a blood infection.

Stoozor Says:

Nov 23, 2011 - For the record, mines are installed in radiology by an angiologist assisted by radiologists and I have to wear a mask and look away from the time they disinfect with the pink stuff. Then they stick a sterile field on my arm that covers my whole body and head and I still have to keep my head turned away for the whole procedure.

bamaghstlvr Says:

Mar 15, 2012 - not without sedation.i have horrible veins.call me chicken whatever

SancerSancer Says:

Mar 19, 2012 - It looks much worse then it actually was....i was scared but it had to be done...I didnt feel too much of the actual insertion of the picc line...there was some slight discomfort when the introducer was first inserted but after that I didn't feel anything....=)

flawlessbrown88 Says:

May 15, 2012 - People need to stop commenting about breaking sterile field. Real life situations are not always like how it's written in nursing school text book. Hope you are recovering well :)

SancerSancer Says:

May 15, 2012 - @Flawlessbrown88 - Thank you for the positive feedback....!! I am in fact ALIVE and WELL. Its been 3.5 years since my Bone Marrow Transplant that followed this PICC Line Insertion...I would let Nurse Bonnie poke me ANYTIME...!! This woman is a Saint in my book...=)
