May 8, 2012 - I can see your point to a degree, but I think the issue isn't who started what, but that Tone Loc outright took distinct samples of Jamie's Crying probably without permission. Maybe that's why VH sued him, I mean Jamie's Crying was released only 4-5 years before, so I think lots of people recognized the similarities, I certainly did.. If memory serves faithfully, I think a year or two later Vanilla Ice was called on the fact that he sampled Bowie yet claimed it as his own original work.

May 8, 2012 - i agree in some cases its wrong to take someones music but in my opinion tone loc added to the influence of van halens music. i don't mind when an artist takes a familiar song and take their own spin on it. i just don't like it when a musician takes a lesser know song by a lesser know band and completely rip them off that's just being lazy and crude.
