May 11, 2012 - The Italians saw the old west as Greek tragedy & elevated the tale to legendary status. Morricone's music, Sergio Leone's cinematography: art on the screen. John Ford's westerns were great but they were myth & Hollywood. This is the greatest single western ever made. Claudia Cardinale is stunningly beautiful & the film is dark & deadly as the old west. The Eastwood films were classic. But this is the Leone masterpiece. A passion play. What we would all like to do to that bully when we grow up.
