Title: Cycling in the snow, Utrecht (Netherlands)

Added: Dec 2, 2010

Author: markenlei

Duration: 6:0

Description:
First snow in winter 2010/2011. It wasn't heavy snow, but it did fall all day so the streets couldn't be cleared of it. Such a thin layer of snow didn't stop anybody cycling though. The video was taken around 3 in the afternoon. Many children were already going home after school and a lot of students and women were on their bicycles in Utrecht, the fourth largest city in the Netherlands. It wasn't rush hour yet.

Oct 30, 2011 - Just so the rest of the world knows. I'm from Canada and I'm told that we have such a good reputation world wide, but believe me, Europe is light years ahead of our American influenced, car and fast food culture. Seeing this clip just makes me wish we were like this or that I was over there.

Dec 3, 2011 - What kind of tires are on these bikes?

femsuii Says:

Dec 4, 2011 - @lucaseq77 Regular tires that you use all year round. People don't change their tires with the changing seasons, unless it's for sport (and the police) and mountain biking for example. Most of the bikes used to commute around the city are 'omafietsen' (grandma bikes) with regular tires. For some reason I can't include a link but google 'omafietsen band' (tire) and you can see them.

Jan 10, 2012 - Just regular ones... Cycling in the snow isn't that hard, you just have to be careful and slow down when making a turn.

bluemoondiadochi Says:

Jan 15, 2012 - right, sorry!yes, it does count! and it's so nice to see smart, practical people who are not wasting money when commuting, even in winter!

EvendimataE Says:

Jan 23, 2012 - commute bikes should have small wheels.....lighter weight and less rubber...big wheels are good for bumpy roads...but for nicely paved roads small wheels should be fine

nielsie86 Says:

Feb 8, 2012 - Dude! how come you have such a snotty comment while youre not even Dutch? want to beat a winning concept? I'll tell you what, you get your little folding bike into amsterdam or utrecht. And you tell me the roads are bumpy or smooth.

Apr 3, 2012 - The Dutch people don't cycle a few hundred meters, but a few kilometers. The bigger the wheel, the lighter it is to travel long distances.

MrTetromino Says:
