Sep 22, 2011 - SSD is very expensive. when i think about people putting SSD into their PS3, the only image come into my mind is an arab with a huge oil mine in his backyard.I have a 2000 dollar high-end laptop (Thinkpad W520), and i dont even have a SSD installed on that.

Nov 13, 2011 - Buddy, you need to correct this video!SSD can HALF track loading times in Gran Tourismo.SSD only good for installing internet games? Mate, have you EVER looked at the HDD activity of a decent large-world game?! The SSD is bound to make a huge difference!

Nov 13, 2011 - What the vid "PS3 7200rpm vs 5400rpm on Killzone 2"If a 7200 can improve performance over a 5400....How do you even get a job at IGN mate?!

Nov 22, 2011 - I completely agree. Seems like this guy doesn't understand why a Disc to Drive load wouldn't be the same speed as an Internet to Drive load... The obvious bottleneck is the Disc drive... Wow!

phishing4tuna Says:
Jan 13, 2012 - I don't know if this has been mentioned, but the reason why there wasn't a significant difference between the SSD and HDD when installing MGS4 is because there is a bottleneck from both having to read from the blu ray disc which is incredibly slow.No one cares about installation times--you set down the controller and make yourself a sandwich. Where consumers really should be concerned is performance with sandbox titles that need to preload areas, which often creates microstuttering.

Feb 18, 2012 - Not worth it to so SSD on the PS3 IMO.The big thing right now and in the near future will be HDD space. I find my 500GB is barely enough anymore and forget about finding an SSD in that size for anything close to what a standard HDD would cost. With downloadable games topping 20GB ea now (L.A. Noire) and with the future heading towards digital downloads the space will be welcome. There is no such thing as too much HDD!

TheSublimePhoenix Says:
Mar 15, 2012 - Install from Blu-ray takes the same time... well DUH. A system is only as fast as it's slowest component, in most cases that is the optical drive i.e.: blu-ray disc transfer. Whenever the blu-ray isn't involved, the SSD will be faster noticeably.
chadheck96 Says:
Apr 22, 2012 - Just like a lot of other people are saying, an SSD in the PS3 is a little pointless. The only thing it really solves is the possibility of mechanical failure in the HDD. You still are limited by the transfer speed of the Blu-ray at 2x, and the bus speed for the SATA ports. It's not going to make a huge difference but the price is going to be a lot higher. I recommend sticking an SSD in a computer before a PS3.
