Oct 26, 2011 - I can shred to this but I sadly don't know what a 1-4-5 progression is:( Mine enlightening me:)
johntuggle Says:
Oct 26, 2011 - It's the chords in a 12 bar blues progression. In this case D G A. You simply take the first, fourth, and fifth notes from the D Major Scale to find them. D Major Scale - D E F# G A B C#. You get D G A.

Oct 31, 2011 - @diggablemanny you can jam on the D minor scale on every chord of this track and on the D major scale on the D chord and A chord... that's blues..mixin the minor scale with the major \m/

Mar 16, 2012 - Great backing track! I had a lot of fun jamming to it! You can view my jam on my page. I called it, jam in D over a blues backing track. It's shreddy and rubbery.

TheGreenStrat Says:
May 5, 2012 - D dorian would not work with this. this is a D dominant blues. D dorian has a minor 3rd which, against the major 3rd of a D7 or D9 would not sound great. A better choice would be D mixolydian, then G mix, and then over the A7 use an A mixolydian. You could throw in some minor 3rds from D dorian from time to time though, as the minor 3rd can add some spice to it, but definitely shouldn't be the "home scale" to solo from.
