Mar 22, 2012 - I do agree to the following: people find it much harder to obey kinda "morals" if they do not maintain the idea of god - it gives you a reason to obey morals. It is therefore an absolutely positive idea - furthermore, it could be true, that god told us to treat any kinda skin color etc equally. What I do believe too, however, is that you can hold the same belief of equality without the firm belief in inevitable reality of god. I simply observe the people around me and think equality is good...

May 6, 2012 - You are a white Arab from Afghanistan?I mean I know Arabs are caucasian like Europeans but light skined Arabs are ussualy from Lebanon pr Syria and not ussualy Afghanistan.
1DarkMasK1 Says:
May 6, 2012 - God is well man made belief so they can justify anything. It gives bad answer on any number of questions for the case morality. Why do you do good things? And if person says because of god he shows he is not really empathic but does because of fear of god or something.I do good things because we people are social creatures and in a society where everyone respects eachother is more likely to survive then a society in which is immoral. This morality is common in all social creatures even ants.
vsky199 Says:
May 6, 2012 - It is very well possible to do good because of the simple observation that doing good increases the overall chances of survival, progress and helps create sth. (Thats why id stick to good) However, you can also believe in god - that is, in the idea that the "good" exists independently from us humans and has a certain shape, which we shall call "god". As soon as our conception of "good" (being defined as a mix of *intention* behind and *actual effect* of a certain action) is the same, both work.
vsky199 Says:
May 6, 2012 - Basically, to go deeper in what u said: you can observe your own actions, actions of other pple and conclude, that the only thing that brings you forwards is exactly the thing that benefits everyone. You realize the idea of "social creatures" and start acting upon it. Surely it may be easier for someone to act upon the idea of god as the reason for good, not the humanity's coexistance and progress. It is partly because of all the defaults and malevolence which we as yet encounter in other pple.
vsky199 Says:
May 6, 2012 - (3) the only problem is, when you modify the idea of god to fit your selfish desires etc. And this danger is a very strong one. Since god is the embodiment of "good", everyone will be forced to accomodate this idea in his head. Faced with so much abstraction, pple are tempted to configure the concept of god (no matter whether he exists or not - i do not dispute that). Some pple will fail to recognize the "good" (as defined by our observation) in god while others will find their beliefs cofirmed.
1DarkMasK1 Says:
May 6, 2012 - Wrong god is not embodiment of good he is the embodiment of AUTHORITY.People dont follow god because he is good they follow him because he is god or above us more powerful etc...In hypothetical scenario if god told you to kill your kid would you do it?I wouldnt. Also the concept of hell is pretty immoral infinite punishment for FINITE crimes doesnt seem fair.Even Hitler doesnt deserve to be tortured forever in fact I am more into preventing evil deeds then punishing them.
1DarkMasK1 Says:
May 6, 2012 - We have jail and jail is not only a punishment but it also prevent the subject to do any further harm for the time being while hell is only the punishment and it doesnt prevent anything at all so its useless.
vsky199 Says:
May 6, 2012 - If god told someone (I doubt he will tell me anything) to kill anyone (for an evil purpose), then he wont correspond to the "embodiment of good" - concept. Neither would I actually, but neither would someone who believes in god as embodiment of "good". Its a matter of definition. Some cristians believe god gave everyone the right or the freedom to decide - believe or not believe; do good or do bad. That would contradict the "god=pure authority" argument.
vsky199 Says:
May 6, 2012 - and I do agree to 100% with the argument about hell. Its absolutely unfair - however, (some) christians believe in absolution, that is the end of torment sometime. See, the point is that there are pple who interpret religion one way and those who interpret it another way. A parallel: its possible to produce electricity or a nuke from nuclear energy. Likewise, u can be religious and do good or be religious and be bad...
1DarkMasK1 Says:
May 6, 2012 - See and thats the problem I am not talking about the induvidual definition of god I am talking about the religious definition of god as potrayed in the bible. For instance the biggest sin in the bible is not believing in a god and even If you are a mass murderer like Paul you can enter heaven if you repent. Now I dont conisder that moral or fair so any christian that claims otherwise is contradicting his religion.
vsky199 Says:
May 7, 2012 - (2) Therefore, you could define "believing in god=do not kill", since believing in god means believe in love and love your neighbour (at a certain part of bible). Love ur neighbour is the opposite of killing him.By doing so, you would condemn Paul as a mass murderer for violation of his belief in love for his neighbour (or even his enemy). Since he violated the belief into love for the neighbour, he feigned false belief in god. according to the definition above, he commited the greatest sin...
vsky199 Says:
May 7, 2012 - (3) By telling Paul is goint to be in heaven, the clerics (= the church) misused the religion ( which we just defined by taking a certain part of bible and placing it over the rest of it) for their selfish goals. The enlarged their influence by compromising their belief. They gave up god, they failed him. U are right in that the bible s got a hell of a twist. Written by ordinary people, and by different pple in addition, it is full of fallacies...
