Apr 30, 2012 - I can prove that free will/a soul exists merely with logic... logic is not something that inherently exists in the natural world, but it may become manifest in our brain as a result of free will.

StreakyBaconMan Says:

Apr 30, 2012 - Last time I checked, human logic isn't perfect. As soon as you assert something is above nature and can't be studied in the natural world then we end the converstation. You have no evidence, and an argument you consider logical doesn't make it logic. You've set it up in your mind so that you cannot be wrong, you've figured out the soul exists, but NO experiment or test can prove you wrong, because it is above nature. You're just protecting your ego without noticing what you're doing.

StreakyBaconMan Says:

Apr 30, 2012 - And even if you could prove the existence of a soul, that doesn't nessisarily mean it was designed by a creator. We used to think it was illogical the way that the planets moved in the night sky, so we said the only logical explanation is that God is moving the planets. Then someone figured out the earth isn't the center of the universe, and all of a sudden we don't need a God to move the planets. You're just inserting God into the gaps of human knowledge and understanding.

Apr 30, 2012 - cool story bro, tell it again?

havabighed Says:

Apr 30, 2012 - Well my logic, since I am a Computer Scientist, is perfect.I did assert that something exists above nature.... after I had PROVEN that it exists above nature. Which is perfectly acceptable."NO experiment or test can prove you wrong, because it is above nature." Wrong, we have metaphysics to show if something is right or wrong.Even Einstein would accept a thought experiment as a proof of something.I can PROVE that there exists something above nature.... I can prove that I have a soul.

StreakyBaconMan Says:

May 1, 2012 - "Well my logic, since I am a Computer Scientist, is perfect."I can only say this: Hahahahahahahaha. Nobody has perfect logic. Can you measure a soul with ANYTHING? Getting proof requires more than sitting in an armchair thinking about nature and existence. And you've already said the soul is "supernatural" and therefore we cannot observe a soul, and you can't prove it exists with illogical logic because you're a "computer scientist".

StreakyBaconMan Says:

May 1, 2012 - If you can prove that a soul exists, do it. Prove it to me right now and make me feel like an idiot. And I can't help but keep laughing about your computer scientist statment. Do all computer scientists have PERFECT logic? If so, do all of them believe in God? And I can almost guarentee Einstein had a better logical mind than you do, and he didn't believe in God either.

StreakyBaconMan Says:

May 1, 2012 - The fact is that you can't prove free will exists, let alone a soul. And you certainly can't prove anything by just thinking about it. You have to provide evidence, show how you came to your conclusion and be able to convince other people based on your evidence that you are correct. My guess is that you can do none of those things.

May 1, 2012 - The comments on these videos are always so predictable. A bunch of people arguing about religion.

sequinlan7 Says:

May 1, 2012 - it would be more rational that a collection plate be passed around for people to give monetary offerings to this man for his program than to any religious man behind a pulpit supporting a faith based agenda.

Karmathejedi1701 Says:

May 4, 2012 - from 33-34minutes..... has he ever herd of the Venus Project?

homeboyy Says:

May 4, 2012 - watchout, badass over here!

ShadesofEb0ny Says:

May 5, 2012 - Excellent job at silencing this 'scientist'. When it boils down to it, he knows he can't provide physical evidence for his claims, so he wiggles around the problem with the overused God of the Gaps argument you exposed, and his 'inherent' reasoning for a soul's existence. I gave up trying to knock some sense in to him. He definitely belongs in the category of theists who are brainwashed beyond the hope of return. But at least you seemed to make an impact; he finally shut up. (for now)

May 6, 2012 - Colbertian logic is the best silly logic.

May 10, 2012 - You can tickle my brain any day Dr Tyson :D

Anima14 Says:

May 10, 2012 - It's troubling that he talks of science as though it could one day eliminate all ignorance. When our knowledge expands so does our ignorance.

CntthnkO15 Says:

May 10, 2012 - I don't think so... Explain yourself.

Anima14 Says:

May 11, 2012 - Left hemisphere (deals with analysis, linear thinking) 'dominance' over the right (creative arts, feelings). I think when people believe that there is nothing left to learn, that's when things get very ugly, and if the answer to what I just said is that science doesn't pretend to answer everything, then Neil shouldn't speak of ignorance as though it's an ever-receding pocket that will eventually burst. Science is useful and brilliant but I think it's being treated in the wrong way
