Motion Picture Soundtrack - 42:55Hidden Track - Genchildren - 47:14Kid A is the fourth studio album by English alternative rock band Radiohead, released in October 2000. A commercial success worldwide, Kid A went platinum in its first week of release in the UK. Despite the lack of an official single or music video as publicity, Kid A became the first Radiohead release to debut at number one in the US. This success was credited variously to a unique marketing campaign, the early Internet leak of the album, or anticipation after the band's 1997 album, OK Computer.Kid A was recorded in Paris, Copenhagen, Gloucestershire and Oxford with producer Nigel Godrich. The album's songwriting and recording were experimental for Radiohead, as the band replaced their earlier "anthemic" rock style with a more electronic sound. Influenced by Krautrock, jazz, and 20th century classical music, Radiohead abandoned their three-guitar line-up for a wider range of instruments on Kid A, using keyboards, the Ondes martenot, and, on certain compositions, strings and brass. Kid A also contains more minimal and abstract lyrics than the band's previous work. Singer Thom Yorke has said the album was not intended as "art", but reflects the music they listened to at the time. Original artwork by Stanley Donwood and Yorke, and a series of short animated films called "blips", accompanied the album.Kid A has been considered one of the most challenging pop records to have commercial success. The album won a Grammy for Best Alternative Album and was nominated for Album of the Year. It also received praise for introducing listeners to diverse forms of underground music. Despite the band's new direction alienating some fans and critics, Kid A received generally positive reviews from notable music publications. It was subsequently listed by multiple publications as one of the best albums of recent years, and in 2009 was ranked No. 1 in lists of the best albums of the 2000s by Pitchfork, Rolling Stone, and The Times.

May 23, 2012 - Radiohead singles never charted well in Britain? What about "Creep", "Street Spirit (Fade Out)", "Paranoid Android", "Karma Police", "No Surprises" and "There There"?

May 23, 2012 - I think it's a good album, and that's at a first listen. I don't know if it's a masterpiece, I feel like I can't judge that.
Jose Gomez Says:
May 23, 2012 - I don't get how how this is #67 album in top 500 albums of all time... Someone please explain this to me because i really thought OK Computer, In Rainbows and The Bends were a lot better than this. SOMEONE PLEASE EXPLAIN! DO I HAVE TO BE HIGH TO LIKE THIS?

May 23, 2012 - You just have to keep listening. Don't force it, just occasionally leave the album on in the background while you're doing work, or playing a game, something where you're not focusing on the music... and one day you'll turn it on, and you'll suddenly think, "Holy shit - this is incredible."

May 24, 2012 - Well, it's all relative I guess. But none of their singles ever reached number 1, never mind spending weeks there. Considering they are one of, if not the, the most important British band since the 60s -- I'd offer that as proof it's not 'pop music'. I mean, when Creep was rereleased in the UK in 1993 and reached its peak, these were some of the acts achieving UK number 1 singles - Shaggy, Ace of Base, Take That, Mr. Blobby, Culture Beat, Gabrielle, Bluebells, 2 Unlimited - need I say more?

May 24, 2012 - I don't think you can do anything to like something (or someone) you don't actually like. But you can always do a lot to appreciate it. For example you can try to hear, to perceive these elements of the album which were rated highly by other people: the sound, the composition and everything else what makes it original and innovative. So you can try to understand and appreciate, but I don't think you can make yourself like it this way. (Forgive me my English, I don't use it everyday)
andross637 Says:
May 24, 2012 - Yeah but of those, only Take That and possibly Shaggy could stand up to Radiohead in overall record sales. Radiohead are a pop band, there's no denying it. I'm also detecting a slight rockist tone in that comment: Gary Barlow to me is every bit the talent Thom Yorke is. Sure, there are "cred" issues in saying such a thing, but fuck all that. I'm calling a spade a spade, and Barlow, like the Gib brothers, Benny and Bjorn or Madonna was a hugely talented artist.

May 24, 2012 - I'm just messing around.Obviously, i don't think everyone who lives in the US is an idiot(though you can't deny that the US certainly has it's fair share of them), and yes, i know that they do have popularity in the US, but the mayority of their Popularity resides on the UK.and i have never gone to Reddit Once.

May 25, 2012 - I like it :) but its not that hard to listen to :o it could have even been a little more experimetal and weird for my taste.
affalaffaa Says:
May 25, 2012 - Definitely, its not nearly weird and freaky enough for my tastes. I think they should have sacrificed a few animals or made a new genre, maybe ultra-dark deep shit, just for starters, then I might be a little impressed. Ah well, seems like they gave it a go anyway, bless 'em.

May 26, 2012 - best radiohead album yes
Jose Gomez Says:
May 27, 2012 - I keep trying to listen. But it's not getting any better.... I don't understand how this is their best album.
stabu18 Says:
May 27, 2012 - come back to it another time and you might appreciate how intricate it is. It might be polarizing but that was part of the point back then - it went in a completely different direction than OK Computer because of the sheer amount of electronics and deviation from the pop format. Give it a chance.
sundayuneedlove Says:
May 27, 2012 - Thats called brainwashing....same as what the radio does and why shit ends up in charts....if you don't feel this straight away....YOU DON'T FUCKING GET IT......FUCK OFF
cpriicorn Says:
May 27, 2012 - You're right. Kid A is extremely straightforward and non-cryptic in its lyrical meanings, very basic and elementary in its musical progressions, and very visceral and predictable in its soundscape. There's absolutely no reason to listen again if you don't appreciate it the first time.
