Aug 12, 2008 - As always, nice work with the lighting and editing (Chris is quite good on these parts, as anyone can see from his previous work). But this time, I kinda felt the sound could have been improved.Chris, can I give you a word of advice regarding this subject? The main acustic problem with this film,is that you can tell it's not in sequence coz the sound in the background changes drastically when you switch between characters talking(pretty much every time you jump to a different cut). -cont-

Aug 12, 2008 - -cont-This damages greatly the realistic aspect of the (good) work you're doing in the editing. It's not good when the audience can tell that different takes are happening at different times (thus, the sound in the background changes).Try dubbing each scene's dialogues in one sequence, lip synch it to the characters (if you can, somestimes you can't) and then on your timeline put a room tone under it, so that it all fits nicely.Hope it helps...and keep up your good work.

Aug 12, 2008 - i shot this before owning a boom mic and the audio indeed was a pain in the ass. it was cold and windy out and blah blah blah. anyhoo, i didnt have the abilities to properly dub this film so i just look at it as a learning experience. and as i tell everyone, if you like what ive done with no money, give me a couple of bucks and see what i can do then.
miguedro Says:
Aug 12, 2008 - yeah, owning a boom mic does make a big difference when capturing sound...but even more importantly: owning a good mic (otherwise, you're still repairing the fact that your equipment is pulling you down).I also liked in this film the musical score, which I believe is you're doing. Again, Nice work.ps - "if you like what ive done with no money, give me a couple of bucks and see what i can do then.". Yupe, good point. Best workshop/degree/bla bla there is: working with no budget.

Aug 12, 2008 - thanks. the music is actually royalty free music i found online. i just got lucky with my selections. but yeah, practical experience is the best education.

Aug 12, 2008 - "i just got lucky with my selections." - humm..it's a bit more than that. Any idiot can go online and find free music/sound clips (with all do respect to all the idiots). But it takes sensibility & experience for one to choose the right tunes/sounds without f*cking up the final product. And, I've noticed in your projects that you have these qualities.;)Hence, I'm looking foward for "Methodic", coz as a horror film it will big quite heavy on this sound department.
miguedro Says:
Aug 12, 2008 - oh, and just to proove what I've just said: I have no shame, in admitting that I've shearched & downloaded a lot of musics from your films.: b
blinky500 Says:
Aug 12, 2008 - lol. thanks man. well methodic will have all original music composed for the film, so you definitely enjoy the score to that.
miguedro Says:
Aug 12, 2008 - Cool.Don't forget to release a region 2 DVD of the film, for us folk here in Europe.;)

Dec 1, 2009 - by far, my favourite of your movies. The lighting is so unnaturally brilliant. What did caligari give to his guy in the end?
blinky500 Says:
Dec 1, 2009 - he gave him drugs.

Mar 7, 2010 - Great video. I'm going to be staging The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari this summer. Pointers?
blinky500 Says:
Mar 7, 2010 - either stay 100% close to the original and make it incredibly abstract with lights, costumes and music or go ultra modern. personally i say stay original. ultra modern only works on video. original would make for a great stage spectacle. please keep me in formed, i would love to see this.
