May 14, 2012 - also it can be overcome, you might not be able to solve the problem itself but you can find ways around it, like einstein did, concentrating on each letter, double checking everythingand so forth
starbrights90 Says:
May 15, 2012 - I think you could say this about the majority of American English though lol
DalyWinzz Says:
May 16, 2012 - Of course it is 'maths' due to it being an abbreviation of the word 'mathematics' which has to be plural due to its meaning... it's just a cultural thing I suppose, but the English way, if we're referring to linguistics, is 'correct'.
Kittywhiskers1000 Says:
May 18, 2012 - So what? English originated from a bunch of German settlers, but you wouldn't be too impressed if the Germans constantly tried to correct our language. Just let things slide.
blackburnman101 Says:
May 20, 2012 - Math.
scumbaguk Says:
May 20, 2012 - Mathematics is a plural. It's an umbrella term for the many different mathematic forms.Algebra, Geometry, Arithmetic, Calculus and so on.In British English Maths would be the correct term.
MrSquareWave Says:
May 20, 2012 - Why? Im just saying, "Maths" is the shortened of Mathematics so they are both umbrella terms, taht has nothing to do with it lol, in England we say "Maths" however what im saying is that down to its routes neither is right/wrong as Maths/Math are shortened from the original word Mathematics so if you wanted to be 100% correct then say that, ik where ur coming from with plural, however its a shortened word already.
scumbaguk Says:
May 21, 2012 - What do you reckon about the word, 'car.' Shortened version of 'horseless carriage.' It's still a word.Do you know how I know 'maths' is a word just like 'car?' Abbreviations have apostrophes in them to denote the missing letters.I sort of see where you are coming from but you are wrong.
scumbaguk Says:
May 21, 2012 - bike bicycle.bikes bicycles.Shortened bicycles maintains it plural status. Just one more example.
Hexxedchild Says:
May 23, 2012 - But German and English are utterly different languages, Americans copy English and dumb it down.
Kittywhiskers1000 Says:
May 23, 2012 - They're completely different languages NOW, yes. Do you honestly believe Germans settled in England and suddenly decided to make up a completely different language? Besides, English has random words picked from multitudes of languages. You only consider it 'dumb' because it's something you're not used too.
josef kula Says:
May 23, 2012 - i agree im shit sometimes and i wouldnt do that under pressure:(
Hexxedchild Says:
May 24, 2012 - I consider it stupid because everything has been made phonetic and pronounciation is just royally fucked because America has so many hilariously strong accents.
mikeybrownee Says:
May 24, 2012 - fail.com
TheWatzitooya Says:
May 24, 2012 - Hey, it's two different ways, developed by two different cultures, to say the same thing. Neither is wrong or right, just different. Like two different ways to say "Caribbean." Or how British people say "Lorry" and Americans say "Semi-Truck" or "Big Rig." It's not a mystery, and isn't worth arguing over. God, this is almost worse than soccer vs. football.
etornel79 Says:
