As time progressed a whole lot of theories emerged, everything from creatures on Venus and beings from the moon, flowing rivers and canals on Mars etc. Science fiction really got people excited at the turn of the 19'th century, with Jules Verne's books about space travel. From the 50's and forward I guess that the cold war, and subsequently the Space Race and the birth of NASA, really enticed people!!
