Of course, people these days would say it's either politically incorrect or sappy one of the two. For me, not bad, but I don't necessarily think it's number one material, but that's just me.

Jul 26, 2011 - Did you know when this song came out, that most of the radio stations wouldn't play it? Not because it was bad or anything like that, but because the song didn't fit Ray Stevens' genre of goof-ball tunes. They figured it wouldn't have a chance. But as you noted, it ended up becoming the best-recognized and enduring song of his quite long career.
