Title: The Evolution of Final Fantasy [25] Phoenix

Added: Apr 12, 2008

Author: garudoh

Duration: 4:45

Description:
Part 25 in a series that takes a look at the history of one of the greatest gaming franchises of all time, chronicling the many recurring themes, characters and monsters that have appeared over the years. This entry focuses on the many incarnations of the resurrecting fire-bird, Phoenix. Enjoy!Notes regarding this video (please read before commenting!):- For the entire series, I have simply gathered video footage from various sources on YouTube and compiled them together. I've done this only to entertain the many fans of Final Fantasy here on YouTube, so with that said, many thanks to all the folks who took the time to record the game footage.- Again, for the whole series, I've focused solely on the main games. Remakes and updates of those games are featured, but I've opted to skip games like Tactics, FFX-2 and such. I had to draw the line somewhere to keep a reasonable length.- Missing the Phoenix that appears in FFIII. For this game, it's just a normal monster, which made finding footage a pain.- Phoenix appears in the lore of FFXI as some kind of deity that inhabits a samurai's sword, but as a user explained to me, when he summons her, all you see is a bunch of fire.

WhiteLycanXII Says:

Jan 23, 2010 - i don't really like 5's phoenix. it only revive one of the ally. if u nearly wiped out, then it will be such a big problem.

TARDISES Says:

Feb 15, 2010 - it DOES fully restore MP as well, however...

gdastray Says:

Feb 15, 2010 - it did? well, didn't see that. ffv didn't show mp unless we use magic right?

TARDISES Says:

Feb 16, 2010 - or with ATB bar invisible....

roughdivideillusion Says:

Jun 30, 2010 - The phoenix in ff8 is an item form.i thought you use it like a revive item.. but phoenix actually activates itself when all of your characters died at the same time. I had experienced that when i'm fighting omega weapon and all my characters died with the terra break.

Crok425 Says:

Jul 20, 2010 - all that hard work to protect a condor and he still dies.

LittlePjusk Says:

Oct 18, 2010 - u didnt show the Phoenix fron ff9 when the entire party is dead, that right there was 1 of the coolest features ive seen Phoenix perform

SmoshRules55 Says:

Nov 12, 2010 - is it just me, or is almost everything in FF7 oversized?

LisaMarie216 Says:

Dec 28, 2010 - I have to say my favourite version has to be FFVIII's Summons. I love the fact that--once you summon the Phoenix--it will come out if the entire party is dead although it's a rarity it is useful.

HeavyMetalBeliever Says:

May 25, 2011 - We had Valefor though. Which sort of counts. Well, not really but still.

WhiteLycanXII Says:

May 25, 2011 - Yeah, well. I liked Valefor in her own right, even if her Overdrive didn't resurrect party members.

parrisdaley Says:

May 29, 2011 - i think valefor was ment 2 be

TopZack Says:

Oct 1, 2011 - Phoenix was actually Lenna's dragon Hiryuu in FF5, when it gave the last of it's power to transform into an Esper (summon), it was very helpful afterwards, especially while fighting powerful bosses like Azulmagia and Exdeath, or enemies like Hades, but it requires 99 MP to be summoned WOOT, but not too much for it's advantages in my opinion.

duckduckmoai Says:

Dec 27, 2011 - VIII and IX had the coolest-looking versions. The fire outline! Good god, the fire outline! Also, Vaan's victory pose was... interesting.
