Description:
This video won the 2011 Webby Award for Animation in the Online Film & Video Category.Produced by: Science Alberta FoundationArtist: Daniel Gies http://danielgies.carbonmade.com/Nano may mean small, very small, but when it comes to making your body work it is big, very big. If your fingernail is about one millimeter thick, and a nanometer is one millionth of a millimeter, you can imagine that there are a lot of nanomaterials making up that small space.

May 4, 2011 - I'm seeing a lot of links about winning the Webby award and no links or credits to any studio or individuals who did the animation and design. Anyone know? Credit given where credit is due.

May 17, 2011 - art plus science? what an odd mix..amazing artistic direction anyway

Jun 13, 2011 - I think the reaction should be "art plus science? awesome!" we definitively need more of this

jorgegege Says:

Jun 13, 2011 - That only if it was well mixed. And this doesn't seem to be the case. The artistic part is used as a mere communicator of the scientific message, nothing more. But, at the same time, the artistic part has so much impact that it obscures the scientific message itself. Picture this same animation but with another non-scientific message and I bet you will find it more enjoyable.Anyway, kudos to the designer

growlingmetal Says:

Jun 13, 2011 - you're right in everithing you wrote... but i meant it in a wider sense... art as a vehicle to communicate science, science as a way to express art, all those boundaries need to be pushed, and the line that separates both constantly questioned. IMHO.
