Haines Junction is a village that lies in Shakwak Valley in Yukon, Canada. It is located at Kilometer 1632 (historical mile 1016) of the Alaska Highway at its junction with the Haines Highway, 158 kilometres west of Whitehorse. Haines Junction was established in 1942 during construction of the Alaska Highway. In 1943, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers completed a branch road (today's Haines Highway) connecting the Alaska Highway with the port of Haines on Lynn Canal. Haines Junction is on the eastern boundary of Kluane National Park and Reserve. Haines Junction is best known as the access point to Kluane National Park and Reserve, a dramatically beautiful wilderness park, famous for its glaciers, mountains, and wildlife. The Canadian Contemporary Artist Mekdam Nima visited Haines Junction few times. There is something romantic about Haines Junctions' nature. It has inspired Mekdam to start this work of art.Mekdam enjoyed the painting and was experimenting with colors while painting the amazing scenery in and around Haines Junction.
