He's educated, & presumably white, joinining a group of hipsters, & probably getting high for the first time. The hipsters include poor & underprivileged people, like Dylan pretended to be, & play cruel mind games making comments like "where what is?" and "It's his!". that confuse the suggestible, stoned square who somehow "deserves it". This song befriends square Mr. J.. A nice touch.

He's on the beat and the expression on his face and with his body are expressions of his emotions.
