Jun 2, 2008 - I think both Dick Button and Barbara Ann Scott raised the sport to a new level! It's so funny though seeing the "arm bands". and the judges holding up the scores, standing on the ice. How delightfully quaint and archaic!

Feb 21, 2010 - ...quaint & archaic? ...refreshing is more like it. The judges actually went onto the ice to examine the marks for accuracy; no guessing or trying to figure out if a move was 2 footed or done incorrectly. (Which brings up a sore point with me. The compulsory dance patterns are exact & it is not possible to judge both their style & accurancy without viewing the patterns close up on the ice). After this examination the judges held up cards showing the marks they were giving to each skater.

Feb 21, 2010 - Under the current system a judge pushes a button lighting up a score board often located in another part of the arena which has the effect of giving the judge a semi-anomymous status. You must then match the score with the judge which can be difficult for tv viewers & often for the arena audience as well. Of course it would slow down the judging process but fairer scores would probably result.I think my main point is that the practices of today are not always better than those of yesterday.

May 27, 2010 - I love the old films of skaters skating outside which we don't see anymore. The ice is just better outside but you have to deal with the wind, cold and maybe melting ice.I'm sure where this ice pond is in the film is now full of chalets and hotels.

Jul 14, 2010 - Barbara Ann Scott had no kids.Dick and Slovka had two and the son and daughter are invovled in the theater world, not skating. Its amazing how the kids of talented skaters don't skate or have an interest in it.Same as with the Jenkins brothers and Carol Heiss Jenkins.
