Thomas Vermaelen | Need a hero Part 1

Thomas Vermaelen | Need a hero Part 1 - Arsenal FC Visit my channel : Belgian football talents www.youtube.com My Twitter : twitter.com Thomas Vermaelen (born 14 November 1985) is a Belgian footballer who plays for the Premier League club Arsenal and the Belgian national team. Being left-footed, he usually plays as a left-sided centre back and can play at left back as well. He is currently the vice captain of Arsenal, with Robin van Persie named captain. Vermaelen joined Arsenal from Ajax for an initial fee of €10 million (rising to €12 million) on 19 June 2009, signing a four-year contract. After Kolo Touré surrendered the number 5 jersey to him upon joining Manchester City, Vermaelen, with William Gallas, formed Arsenal's central defence pairing. Vermaelen made his Premier League debut on 15 August 2009 in 1--6 away win against Everton, and scored in the 37th minute. He became the 84th Arsenal player to score on their debut. He then scored a brace against Wigan in a 4--0 victory. Arsenal fans voted him as their player of the month twice in a row on Arsenal.com, and affectionately nicknamed him the 'Verminator'. However, he scored an own goal in a home match against Chelsea when a cross came in from Ashley Cole. The game finished 3--0 to Chelsea. He became notable for being a goal scoring defender, due to his spectacular 25 yard left footed goal against Blackburn Rovers and many headed goals during the first half of Arsenal's 2009--10 season. In recognition for his ...

Vidic vs Vermaelen |Defensive Walls|

Vidic and Vermaelen are known as one of the best, if not the best two centre-backs in England. There quit similar to be honest. There both in there upper 20s , there both just over 6 feet tall (1.80m) They both score alot for centre halfs they would both put there life in play to not concede a goal

Vermaelen header goal wins game - Wenger reflects - Everton 0-1 Arsenal | EPL 2012

Arsenal moved up to third in the table after claiming their sixth successive Premier League win courtesy of a battling display at Everton. Thomas Vermaelen headed the only goal of the game from a corner during a period of early Arsenal dominance. But Everton rallied and were denied an equaliser when Royston Drenthe's finish was wrongly ruled out for offside. The Toffees had further chances to get something from the game but the Gunners showed great resilience to hold on. What is clear from this is that early February reports of Arsenal's demise were greatly exaggerated. Following a 0-0 draw at Bolton seven weeks ago, the Gunners were seventh, 12 points behind third-placed, north London rivals Tottenham, bringing the doom-mongers out in force. However, their last six games have seen them take 18 points, score 19 goals, rediscover the confident swagger for which they are synonymous under Arsene Wenger and demonstrate a resilience many thought they lacked. At Goodison Park, the opening 15 minutes were a testimony to the north London side's attacking prowess as the reborn Tomas Rosicky, the supremely prolific Robin van Persie and the recalled Aaron Ramsey all threatened to put the game beyond the home side. This period should have yielded greater reward than Vermaelen's solitary headed goal from a Van Persie corner. Everton are a potent force on their own turf, though, as Champions League-chasing trio Manchester City, Chelsea and Tottenham have all discovered recently, and ...

Arsenal 2-1 Newcastle 12/3/2012 Vermaelen & Walcott

Thomas Vermaelen struck in the fifth minute of injury time as fourth-placed Arsenal moved to within one point of bitter rivals Tottenham with a dramatic win over Newcastle at the Emirates Stadium. The Gunners went behind to a precise finish from Hatem Ben Arfa in the first half but they were level 55 seconds later when Robin van Persie held off Mike Williamson's challenge to slot home Theo Walcott's cross. Van Persie, Tomas Rosicky and Gervinho were all guilty of wasting good chances in the second half and the game looked beyond Arsenal, but Vermaelen popped up in the 95th minute to rifle home Walcott's cross from close range to snatch all three points. Having seen Spurs lose for the third successive game this weekend, tonight's game was a huge chance for Arsene Wenger's men to maintain the pressure on their neighbours and prove to their doubters that they deserve a top-four place after what has been an indifferent season.

Thomas Vermaelen scored the injury time winner as Arsenal came from behind to beat Newcastle 2-1.

Thomas Vermaelen lashed in a loose ball deep into injury time as Arsenal moved to within a point of third-placed Tottenham with a dramatic 2-1 win over Newcastle. The hosts looked set to lament a string of spurned chances - as well as some resolute Toon defending - but Vermaelen's driving run into the box (90+4) resulted in a fifth straight win.

Marseille 0-1 Arsenal - Vermaelen signs a new contract with Arsenal | Champions League 2011-12

Arsenal defender Thomas Vermaelen has committed his future to the club by signing a new long-term contract. The 25-year old centre-back has been out injured since picking up an ankle problem against Udinese in August but is closing in on full fitness. The Belgium skipper signed for the Gunners from Ajax in June 2009 and was also sidelined for most of last season with an Achilles injury. "I always had the intention to stay here," Vermaelen said. "I feel there is a big belief in me from the club, from the boss and from the fans and that is one of the reasons why I stayed. "Arsenal is a fantastic club. We have great supporters, we're doing well financially and we are playing with some quality young players now and they will develop, which is very good for the future." Despite his injury problems, he is a regular when fit in a side that has recently lost Cesc Fabregas to Barcelona and Samir Nasri to Manchester City. Captain Robin van Persie has also been linked with a move away from Emirates Stadium and has said he is in no rush to sign a new deal. The Dutch forward's contract runs out in 2013 and Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger said Van Persie knows they are ready to begin talks. Wenger said of Vermaelen's deal: "We are absolutely delighted. Our plan is always to sign top quality players and with Thomas extending his contract, we have done just that. "Thomas is a special player, who has always made a huge contribution on the pitch and we are looking forward to him being a part of ...
