Giuseppe Verdi - Aida - Marcia Trionfale (Triumphal March)
Title : Giuseppe Verdi - Aida - Marcia Trionfale (Triumphal March)
euronews musica - Old is new again in Verdi's 'I Masnadieri'
www.euronews.com The glorious San Carlo opera house in Naples is staging Verdi's 'I Masnadieri' (The Bandits), a story about tragic love, feuding brothers, and a gang of young rebels indulging in the most horrible crimes. "I Masnadieri are outlaws, that is to say criminals living outside the law. These are also young people who do not see any future for themselves," explained director Gabriele Lavia. This opera, which the Neapolitan public has not had a chance to see for decades, deals with contemporary issues: young people's rebelliousness, or Man's difficulties in dealing with the vagaries of fate. Musically rich and complex, 'I Masnadieri' has an extraordinary beginning according to conductor Nicola Luisotti. "I find the Prelude and its solo cello extremely interesting," Luisotti told euronews. "The solo instrument indicates that each character in this opera is alone; nobody loves anybody, and everyone hates everyone. The tragedy is caused by a lack of communication - all the music here reflects that solitude." The opera's topicality is also echoed in a famous romanza sung by Carlo, the anti-hero - 'I feel as if I were attached to evil by a chain, I have the impression that the earth, that my own homeland, my whole world is rejecting me, that even God is ignoring me.' "These are words one can read on the graffitied walls of any subway in New York, or Rome, or Naples, where unhappy, angry, young men use walls to express their desire for freedom - freedom which is ...
Verdi Liszt La Danza Sacra Duetto Finale Aida Lisitsa
This is an awesome piece by a very very old Liszt. There is nothing flashy or "virtuoso" ( thank you ,Liszt, for not using a famous march or Celeste Aida for this paraphrase lol) but the colors Liszt evokes from the piano , those lush yet eerie colors anticipate what Impressionists were to discover later. The story here is simple and you probably well know it . If not - here is a very short synopsis: the action takes place in exotic ancient Egypt. But the plot is like any modern soap opera - simple and unbelievable. A love triangle : Pharaoh's daughter falls in love with a promising military man , but he is in love with her slave girl. Everybody suspects everybody. Slave girl turns out ( hello, soap opera ) to be a daughter of Egypt arch-enemy, king of Ethiopia. Egypt is at war with Ethiopia and they seem to be winning , until our hero , blinded by love, tells military secret to his sweetheart. The end is brutal. Pharaoh's daughter offers to save him if he marries her and forgets the other girl. Upon refusal, in rage she orders her beloved to be buried alive in a temple as a sacrifice to angry gods. While the tomb closes over his head he sees that Aida, his beloved , joined him in the grave. What in real life would be a gruesome scene of death by asphyxiation turns by miracle of music into one of the most beautiful songs ever written. Our couple is together without need to hide , for a first time ever they can freely express their love - they bid farewell to mortal life ...

Giuseppe Verdi - Nabucco - Overture
Nabucco (short for Nabucodonosor, English Nebuchadnezzar) is an opera in four acts by Giuseppe Verdi to an Italian libretto by Temistocle Solera, based on the Biblical story and the 1836 play by Auguste Anicet-Bourgeois and Francis Cornue. It is Verdi's third opera and the one which is considered to have permanently established his reputation as a composer. Nabucco follows the plight of the Jews as they are assaulted, conquered, and subsequently exiled from their homeland by the Babylonian King Nabucco (in English, Nebuchadnezzar). The historical events are used as background for a romantic and political plot. Its first performance took place on 9 March 1842 at the Teatro alla Scala, Milan under the original name of Nabucodonosor. The definitive name of Nabucco for the opera (and its protagonist) was first used at a performance at the San Giacomo Theatre of Corfu in September, 1844. Nonetheless, a more plausible alternative for the establishment of this abbreviated form claims that it was the result of a revival of the opera in Teatro Giglio of Lucca.. The best-known number from the opera is the "Chorus of the Hebrew Slaves," Va, pensiero, sull'ali dorate / "Fly, thought, on golden wings," a chorus which is regularly given an encore when performed today Verdi commented that "this is the opera with which my artistic career really begins. And though I had many difficulties to fight against, it is certain that Nabucco was born under a lucky star." The opera was an instant ...

BBC Proms 2011: Verdi - Dies Irae from Requiem
Originally broadcast live from the Royal Albert Hall, London Verdi's Requiem - his great sacred masterpiece - storms the heavens with a stellar line up of soloists and massed choirs in the second of the Proms Choral Sundays. The ultimate in dramatic intensity, this extraordinary work speaks of heaven and hell, fire and earth, darkness and light in music that is as much theatrical as devotional. Verdi completed it in 1874, and conducted the premiere himself in Milan. Three large-scale choirs and the BBC Symphony Orchestra conducted by a Verdi specialist whose recent Cologne recording, which also featured bass Ferruccio Furlanetto, has been much acclaimed. Soloists Marina Poplavskaya and Joseph Calleja both sang alongside Furlanetto in last year's Simon Boccanegra at the Royal Opera House. Marina Poplavskaya (soprano) Mariana Pentcheva (mezzo-soprano) Joseph Calleja (tenor) Ferruccio Furlanetto (bass) BBC Symphony Chorus BBC National Chorus of Wales London Philharmonic Choir BBC Symphony Orchestra Semyon Bychkov (conductor).
